Well Wednesday night is now even more crucial to our relegation battle.

It'll be how we deal with FA cup defeat tomorrow. Derby will be coming to us after beating Watford 2-0 and will be feeling the more confident. Our great FA cub run appears to have done wonders for our confidence and league form so how we deal with being defeated by Villa in the cup will play a big part!!!

Today's league results weren't the best as far as we are concerned. The pressure is now on, we have a slight advantage of games in hand but we need to make that advantage work in our favour!!!

I really fear the FA cup is doing us no favours.

We're not out of trouble at all.

Winners of five of our last six in the league with the one loss away to a side pushing for a top-six finish, and showing improvement in the process irrespective of results

Coming off of our first full week of rest/training in a month

Idle today and still didn't change table position

As a matter of perspective, it's not the ones pushing us from the back who are on my mind these days --it's those whom we have to pass up on the way to a mid-table finish

But first things first and 90 minutes at a time and all of that

I don't think there is much chance we'd have won 5 of the last 6 in the league without the cup run. So it's doing us a lot of favours.

I think the FA cup has contributed to our improved results and confidence.

We may not be out of trouble but we will be out of the cup come tomorrow.

At the end of the day we are still out of bottom 3 with games in hand. Yes, we need to make that advantage work for us and there's still some crucial games ahead. Also, like I said I fully believe Villa will knock us out and how we bounce back or should I say deal with that will be crucial...!!!

I agree the whole league improvment was kick-started by the Liverpool result ..... but - I have a lingereing worry that if we win tomorrow then the players will be so preoccupied thinking about Wembley - and especially avoising injury for it - that they'll ease off in league games.

So I'll settle for a brave, battling, defeat tomorrow - possibly when where we're clearly robbed - and then it's back to the league full of confidence.

But we've got a good bunch of eager, young, fit players... umm... sorry, got distracted for a moment  ... who believe they can do anything at the moment and won't worry about the odd knock or extra game time. I can't see the FA Cup slowing them down in the league.

It's not stamina or anything like that - just something in the back of their minds that makes them wimp out of challeneges and compete that 1% less because they're aware that an injury or a sending-off might rob them of their possibly only chance to play at Wembley.

Well, I hope the players don't share your lack of confidence!

Villa will be hard, for sure, but we have a massive chance of winning this game. It will mostly depend on our confidence, as with previous Cup games.

Back to the topic... Considering where we were, I thnk we're sitting pretty right now. A loss in the Cup shouldn't dent our confidence either.

Happy to be where we are right now.

URRRZZZZZZZZ!!!

This team put five past Sheffield Wednesday after 120 + minutes of FA Cup action, so anything is possible, in my opinion :x :D

Wow I have to say what a turnaround in the last few months. Talks of 'massive chance' of winning tomorrow's game and attempt to get up to play offs. A few months back most were wondering where the next point would come from.

Big chance of winning tomorrow and play offs still lolworthy though. I hate to say it, it's great to be optimistic but play offs are still a lot of hard work off, let's try and aim for mid table first or better still ensure league safety! As for massive chances of winning tomorrow I'd say are far fethched. We actually didn't beat Liverpool at our place and Villa are a very good team on the road. I don't think we will be poor but they'll simply get the goals and we won't.

I fully agree. My comment was tongue in cheek. I was a bit peeved with todays results but we should still end up being safe.

When I say "massive" I don't mean we're favourites, far from it. However, we're probably something like 3-1 or 4-1 to win tomorrow.

That's massive and a real posibility.

Until we've actually lost, I see us winning it :)

So, 5 wins from 6 and 1/4s of the cup, and someone starts a thread about other teams winning?

4 wins from 14 and we're safe ffs, stop flapping!

No :| As a realistic prospect, rather than a play off spot...I thought we should keep an eye on things happening in the league....

:|

Should I rename this thread the Mid table watch?

Ignore it Tails. I'm interested in what''s going on down the bottom, and I'm sure a lot of other people are to.

Anyway, I thought you were dead?
