All the best champ. Some days looked like a Prem defender, some days looked Sunday league. Still, we're fooked if we don't replace him.

RoyalBlue Like Feds and Jem, Pearce had tremendous value to us as a player and will be very difficult to afford to replace with a similar standard player within the club's budget. Also like Feds and Jem, Pearce would have had financial value to us, had we got him under contract. Seems to me that we have thrown both types of asset away. .

You can't make players sign contracts though, and I've no doubt that Federici's ego, let alone his agent/bank balance, meant he was never going to accept another contract here unless we were promoted.

Same probably goes for Pearce, although less so on the ego side of things i imagine.

Both players knew they would have better offers if they were available on a free and having secured their previous contracts were always likely to be running those down to sell themselves on the free market.

.

Depends when you make the contract offers though doesn't it. Maybe they wouldn't have signed contracts had they been offered them earlier, but at least there was a chance. What was absolutely certain though was that the odds started to dramatically tip against us the longer we waited and, in the case of Feds, went totally against us when Clarke decided it was important to sack an extremely good, proven goalkeeping coach, who Feds regarded as a very significant mentor and something of a father figure.

Feds had agreed a contract with Bournemouth long before Bibbo got sacked.

So do you suggest we should've offered them these bumper pay new contracts that we couldn't afford?

If you hadn't noticed we've been a bit tight for cash the last 18 months and Pearce only signed his two year deal two years ago, funnily enough.

The players had no need to sign new deals, on lower wages, any earlier and in Federici's case there was no way he was realistically going to sign a new deal as he'll have been waiting to see out his contract and look at his options because he knew other clubs couldn't be arsed to pay a fee for him a couple of years ago.

You're living in dream world on this one RB.

Seems to be the norm now that news is confirmed by GetReading before the club themselves. Are they planning on announcing the departure of half the first team staff?

"He was rubbish anyway" - the HNA? verdict on every player to ever leave the club no matter how much success said player had at RFC.

Disappointed to see Pearce leave. He's solid at this level and I cannot see us bringing in anybody who is an improvement.

Unfortunately it seems for the foreseeable future we just do not have the finances that are needed to compete for promotion in this league.

Unfortunately it seems the owners are not prepared to provide the finances that are needed to compete for promotion in this league, or possibly even remain in this league.

Simple but highly disappointing.

Still, if they won't put their money in, why should I put mine in? I'll attend matches when I see the owners commit to their part of the bargain.

Paul Clement succeeded Steve McClaren as Derby boss on 1 June and has the final say on transfers, but the deals for Bent and Pearce were already close to being finalised before the former Real Madrid assistant boss was appointed.

Clement said: "Darren Bent is a proven goalscorer. He is going to be key in our plans."

Nothing about Pearce though lol

I'll miss his ability to do the simple things well, and to pop up with the odd goal from set pieces.

His commitment to the club was also never in question, and when he had periods out of the side he never seemed to cause any trouble.

We have some good defensive prospects coming through, so hopefully we can now bring in some experience to ease their transition from the tippy-tappy u21 league to the rather more physical Championship.

Did you just post on 2 users one after the other? Your posts are incredibly similar so that's the only thing that makes sense.

Alex Pearce has revealed that the ambition of Derby County was the biggest pull in his decision to end his 14 year affiliation with Reading and join the club.

I want to now play a key part in this club moving forward of this club getting out of the Championship and into the Premier League."
Alex Pearce

The 26-year-old, alongside Darren Bent, became the Rams’ first two signings ahead of the 2015-16 season after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal after his contract had come to an end with the Royals.

The move represents the Republic of Ireland international’s first permanent move in professional football having being on the books of Reading since the age of 12.

Pearce says that the club’s ‘clear vision’ was one that he wanted to become part of and says he is looking forward to the challenge of trying to help the Rams achieve their aims – both in the short and long term.

Speaking to Rams Player, he said: “It’s a big thing for me to get this deal over the line and I’m really delighted that everything has been finalised.

“I found out about it quite early doors after the season finished and after we had got in contact with each other, everything escalated really quickly.

“It’s been a smooth transition and it is very pleasing that I’m going to be part of such a great club going forward.

“The ambition of the club was a huge pull for me. I spoke to certain people within the club and it was clear to see that there is a clear vision here at Derby to not only get into the Premier League, but stay there and that is something that you want to be part of as a player.

“I want to now play a key part in this club moving forward of this club getting out of the Championship and into the Premier League.

“I have been at Reading for a long time, I have been there since I was 12-years-old, but there is always a time in your life when you have to move on with certain things and this is the time for me.

“I need a fresh challenge and this with Derby is exactly what I’m looking for.

“Last season, admittedly, was a difficult season for Reading and I’m sure they will be looking to have a better season themselves next year, but for myself I’m looking at a new challenge of trying to get promoted with Derby County.”

I think it's also a good time to point out that he's a player who has come through our Academy to make over 200 appearances for the club, be an ever-present in a team which won the league, and make his international debut while he was with us.

Proof that investment in the Academy is crucial and that it will pay dividends.

Happy days.

Whilst he isn't in himself a bad defender, he isn't the defender our team needs and on the whole has looked like he's held us back for a while where it'll be the likes of Hector that can take us forward.
