Pros
We've got a manager
He has experience playing at the highest level
He has experience playing in England
He comes from a good coaching environment
He's a name
He has plenty of time to prepare for the season
Cons
He's got no management experience
He's got no coaching experience in England
He's got no experience of the Championship
The search for a replacement obviously wasn't too exhaustive seeing as he was appointed inside 7 working days of the vacancy appearing and was rumoured to have had the job for almost a week before that
He's had no time to see the players in an actual match environment
We're still light on coaching and behind the scenes staff
I wish him all the best and hope he does well. He just has to be given a chance and time almost no matter how badly he does given how much upheaval we've had in the last four years. Short of being in the relegation zone all season he pretty much has to still be here in October 2017.
I don't think this in any way lessons the poor nature of the decision to get rid of McDermott and I see very little on paper to suggest Stam is in any way better. That doesn't mean he won't do well. But he's here. It's still the owners I'm pissed off at, not him. He now gets rated on how he does.
