Poor move. He is 27 this summer. Surely this is the time to move to the PL. I would have thought a number if teams in the lower half of the PL would be interested.

Perhaps the tailing off in form over the latter part of the season has put Prem clubs off.
I would have thought the likes of Fulham and Bournemouth might have been interested as well as whoever fills the 3rd promotion spot.

Would think they have enough players trying to step up from the Champ to avoid wanting to sign another

Wouldn't say it's necessarily a bad thing to want more players like that in your squad, particularly if it improves the squad as well which Swift definitely does for most sides that get promoted.

South Coast Royal As a club I would put WBA on a par with Watford and Norwich (level of support, history etc.) so don't see this as such a bad move as others seem to think.
Disappointed of course that he won't still be with us but an understandable move.

Maybe Leeds will renew their previous interest.

It's not a bad move if the rumour that surfaced before talks were confirmed/reported are true that he has been offered double his money here. If so that'll be about 40k pw - may struggle to match that even at PL level and would be a key player at WBA but a squad player at any PL club.

Injury prone 27 year old, as good as he is when he's in form is it that surprising that Prem teams aren't queuing up to sign him even if he is available of on a free. One of those players who would do ok in the Prem but probably needs to get promoted from the Championship to get there.

Some insider account that seemed to be set up just to leak that Bowen is returning, has tweeted that Morrison will sign a new deal alongside Yiadom this week.

Not too sure on that one unless there is an element of coaching involved - hopefully be no more than an experienced squad option and not a starter next year.

I'd be hoping squad player only if true, but a great character to have around the dressing room and his wages are low in respect to many other players in the squad, may even decrease slightly as well potentially. Hopefully a route into coaching for him here as well.

Hoilett, Laurent and Rino to tie down now to new deals hopefully. The rest I'm not too concerned about.

Yeah get rid please. Would much rather play a youngster with potential over him.

Fine with him staying as back up and transitioning to a coaching role. Def not as a first Teamer or even in the mix for that really

Re Swift - be a strange move to tie that up before the season has ended. Surely he should wait to see who goes up/down. Would surely only be because of the lure of a Gourlay wage, which is a bit disappointing really. He should be trying to push himself at this stage of his career

I think that is Swift's issue, he is too comfortable. We saw this season how his form dropped off a cliff compared to his early season form, potentially complacency set in.

If it works for him and gets him a great deal at WBA then fair enough, he will probably do ok there. Would have been curious to see how he got on in the Premier League though.

I'm not convinced Swift is good enough to be anything but an occasional squad player in the Prem. He reminds me of Simon Osborn, absolutely fantastic at this level but not got a good enough all round game for the Prem.

Does anyone know if Cooper worked with the squad defensively all season or was he only in for a short period?

Which Cooper is this a reference to ?

Former England U21s coach Colin Cooper came in for a couple of days this week to help coach at #ReadingFC.

Thanks
I was worried you were referring to Liam !
I know he has had some coaching influence on Holzman but couldn’t imagine a player at a rival club would have been coaching officially with us !

Think WBA may struggle next season. Reckon they will have to off load a lot of players to get wage bill down, etc so imo it doesn't feel like a great move for Swift. Doubt they'd pay him £40k p.w. either. Think he might be lucky to pick up £20k in the Champ in the current environment. He'd be better off going to Norwich or Watford

I think with Swift it depends on who plays what system. A lot of clubs play a 4-3-3, not sure he has the legs as an 8. I always thought he'd suit a Brighton. Someone who can pack the midfield with their system and keep hold of the ball well.

Burnley and Southampton in their traditional 4-4-2's he would struggle in, unless he was part of the 2 narrow forward-thinking midfielders in Soton's team.

Or a pre-contract signed.

Agreed. Whilst we did stay up and the problems were widespread, can’t forget just how bad the defence was through the entirety of the season with the numbers of goals conceded. With rumours of Yiadom, Morrison and Holmes now signing up, it looks like we’re going to be left with the same core of defenders as last season (aside from LB). We can’t stick to failing habits

Besides, we don’t want to end up in another situation with too many players in one position with shortages elsewhere especially with Moore and Dorsett returning

Who knows. He may just have subconsciously eased off a bit to try and avoid getting a serious injury.

He's better than Dann. Reckon he'd be fine alongside someone with pace with some midfield protection

Perhaps a mistake to re-sign Dann. We really do not need both of them plus McIntyre, Holmes, Moore and potentially Thomas and Dorsett. We desperately need Moore off the books.
