Story on the OS now.

Doyle and Hunt sign new contracts
4pm, Friday 5th January 2006

Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt have both signed new contracts with the Royals.

23-year-old Republic Of Ireland international striker Doyle, currently the Premiership's third leading scorer with 10 goals, has agreed a new contract that runs until the summer of 2010.

Former Brentford winger Hunt, 25, who scored his first Premiership goal in the 6-0 victory over West Ham on New Year's Day, has put pen to paper on a new deal to extend his stay until the summer of 2009.

Chairman John Madejski told readingfc.co.uk, "This is extremely good news and I am delighted that Kevin and Stephen have committed themselves to Reading Football Club.

"They are two of the nicest lads you could possibly wish to meet, and they are both very important players who epitomise everything that is good about football."

In the EP today, Copps says we've only had interest from one club for a player and no-one is leaving anyway. Precious little news of NEW signings as always then.

its a lack of ambition - we should be aiming higher - 9th in the premier league is nothing. I'm expecting Rooney and Terry myself...

The report came from some guy who works in the hotel.... but I have this news about 5 people down the line.

If we were paying the kind of money players like Baros want then we would have given Sidwell a big fat contract in the summer.

That is fantastic news to secure the long-term signature of Doyle as well as Hunt today!

We now have Doyle in the bag until after the Madejski has been expanded to an arena that can seat 40,000 people.

By that point when Doyle's contract is up for dicussion once again, the Royals will be an even more attractive proposition than we are now.

It also looks like Coppell and Hammond are really trying to build something up for the long-term. Hopefully Coppell will stay with us for many more years ahead! Things are looking good. It would take a very big club to sign Coppell or any of our players the way things are going right now!

If Sidwell signs as well then that will really underline how far we have come as a club if we can retain our star assets!

Its possible that we're about to give Sidwell his £25k per week he wants. Baros can only be on about £30-35k. £40k at a push! He's clearly not in O'neils plans as hes not even made 10 starts this season. Its quite possible that we could offer £25-£30k pw and he'll accept it.

Im not saying that this is a dead sert but its certainly worth reporting news on the grape-vine.

Also the fact that Baros is clearly shite and is not the type of player Coppell would look at. Hes such a selfish player and hes been discusses on previous threads. He doesn't work for the team at all and constantly runs with his head down and falls over. Baros is on about 40k at Villa but he is not one i would like to see here at all.

A great start to 2007. We beat West Ham 6-0 and Doyle and Hunty sign new contracts.

Could have big implications for Sidwell's situatuion. I'm almost expecting him to sign now!

Great news on the Irish duo particularly Doyle until 2010.As Brendywendy says just need to settle shopwindow man now.Whilst i`d prefer him to sign on the dotted line for the hoops i`d just like to see the matter resolved and sorted asap.
