brighton_royal Marek surely off, no? Can't imagine why else the classiest midfielder ever to play for Reading not even in the squad.

Simon Osborn isnt likely to make much difference these days

Platypuss
Royal Lady Good point actually - he bottled it with Smith.

The second would have been a harsh yellow IMO.

Absolutley

Beaten by the better team, we are at the start of a new era and a lot of work is still needed on this young squad, so no major shame in that

Agree with much of what you have posted today, he shouldn't have gone- two silly challenges but nothing malicious and if that had been karacan we'd be disappointed if he had been shown red.

Platypuss The last time I really felt like this was after Wrexham in August 1998. That was 3-0 too.

Difference is, we were playing Newcastle this time.

GET SOME oxf*rd PERSPECTIVE.

Oh, and for those crying out for Noel.....he was the shittest player on the pitch when he came on.

Today is proof, as if we needed it that we NEED some experience and quality in our squad. I whole heartedly support Brendan bringing players up through the youth system but to have them all in at the same time is ridiculous. We need a decent striker and a gritty central midfielder at the minimum if we are to have any chance this season. I have faith that we will bring in personnel before the deadline!

I'm gutted by this result but we need to get it into perspective. We have a young team and going to a place like Newcastle was always going to be a huge test. For me the better measure of the team's mettle will come on Tueday.

If we lose that one without scoring then I'll start to worry.

Yes but Winchester, we're Reading and we have a divine right to win every game and reclaim our rightful place in the top flight where we have spent 99% of our 138 year history. I mean, Rodgers has had two full games to turn his new team into world beaters. How much more time does he want?

thought we were ok in the 1st half- weathered the storm then pressed them for a good period
smith should probably have gone off, the second foul was worse than th e1st, and about two minutes after it, and long was pulled up when getting himself clean through on goal, no push, just used his body as the newcastle player flew by.
thought long looked good first half,as did cisse and pearce, and davies in the middle but when we conceded we lost our shape, and any leadership, and second half it looked like men against boys , coincidentally.
karacan and tabb chasing shadows, ran themselves to their knees, and pearce and cisse dropped right off the radar.
the two wide players were totally awful-at least i noticed kebe for trying stuff that didnt come off, but church was invisible, and without them long was left isolated-totally unfair to single him out IMO-kanu and nhunt looked dangerous when they got on from what i saw-worst player on the pitch my arse.
rosenior wasnt that bad, bertrand looked good, couple of good saves from fed.
pretty poor show though, regardless of the opposition-and they aint no man.U,thats for sure.

one striker, 1 winger, and a proper DCM still required IMO
and for christs sake lets replace some of the experience weve lost, or we could be in for some mullerings

You what now? He came closest to a goal with a great effort across the keeper, and set up a chance for Long late on. He's hardly a panacea, but he's the biggest goal threat in the squad. Having him sat on the bench isn't far from idiocy.

The next two weeks are going to be vital for the club this season. We HAVE to buy some striking power, otherwise it is really difficult to see where the goals are coming from. I have said this before and will say it again: SHANE LONG IS NOT A FOOTBALLER and has the first touch of a rapist.

I do not mind the future with kids, but it is no good it happening in Div 1.

Agree with all of that brendy

Well all of it apart from the bit dismissing the quality of that Newcastle team

I still thnk we have a DMC up to the job in Harper, but he isnt fit yet

We dfinately fell apart after going behind, and thats going to be a common thing if we dont get some experience in the team to keep heads up when things go against us

Plenty of perspective thanks. Perhaps you need to see a few more seasons of games?

I call it as I see it - and I see a strong resemblance with another team that wasn't equipped to be competitve in the division they were playing in. I hope Rodgers sorts us out soon or things could get far worse before they get better if we start to get sussed out.

True, Everton clearly are the worst side in the Premier League.
