I'm not talking about the rumours and speculation. I'm talking about the words coming out of the actual mouths of the owners. If there is no willing to invest, don't pretend there is.

That is fair comment actually. We've been hearing the club being talked up for years now and we never match it with investment, but season ticket sales improve... It's not on. By all means talk the club up and create the right vibe, but don't go as far as blatantly lying to the fans just to sell more merchandise and tickets. If it wasn't for new ownership coming in, and their template chatter when they're announced, season ticket sales would nose-dive this summer! As it happens the fans will get caught up with the excitement of new ownership and I think the fans will give the club the benefit of the doubt and continue to invest their hard earned money again; but more false promises or mass sales followed by a lack of investment will see the few added thousands start falling away. I'm a mug and will still be there, but others aren't as tolerant, or stupid..

Super Kevin Bremner! The only thing that's weak in all of this is people's resistance to feeling hard done by and depressed by what is ultimately just a game in which their team didn't get them the toys they wanted.

It's so easy to be negative, but it's just slightly challenging to try to stay positive. That's why there's so many people taking the easy option. Honestly it makes life so much easier stepping out of your comfort zone and challenging your own paradigms that make you feel fed up.

I generally agree with this, And I don't remember Anton ever saying he would do a "Chelsea" but to a certain extent and not for the first time there has been a failure to manage expectations by the club.

But they can't come out and say "There's no money"

That would start a perfect storm feeding frenzy with agents unsettling players and clubs looking to buy at knock down prices feeding off our desperation.

I know what you mean, but there are reasons why they just can't say anything - even if they wanted to!

Not really true. You can say we are happy with what we've got and are financially stable with the current squad so won't be looking to invest. Or you say "it is not in our interests to disclose that information at this time" at leave it at that. You don't need to mislead the fans by talking up investment that simply isn't going to happen.

I'm not THAT fussed about us investing right now, although I think we need cover in defense. I'm just a bit tired of hearing false pledges to invest and don't think that's fair.

Or maybe he was let down again by an over promising owner?

Life was simpler when we could clearly only blame SJM

whether it's true or not it's got some logic behind it and supports Adkins reiteration he doesn't want to lose anyone this month, and if he needed to sell to buy, this would make some sense.

"Let me just put to you why I don't think it will go through THIS month -- AZ and SJM want to leave RFC with the best possible chance of promotion this season, and they don't want any new owners selling any of the big names this month!

I know they have asked that of all interested parties and twice now through usually reliable sources we have heard the Omani deal was agreed in principle, yet here we are still waiting for it to be signed off.

My assumption, and it's only my assumption, is that those assurances have not been given, the new owner(s) in waiting recognise the wage bill must come down and can't invest in the squad beforehand, so the current ownership want to ensure the squad stay together through this window and then our future is in the hands if the Omani's.

The Omani heading this consortium is not part of the Sultanate of Oman, but they (Omani Royal Family) have advised and mediated with the deal. However, the Omani heading the take-over is very well known Omani. Expect this to complete in Feb."

I'm wondering if the fact that we supposedly have two interested parties is the problem. Until either of the two parties become 'the potential deal', why should they put money in for the transfer window? With Anton, TSI were the only interested party and they could afford to be more outgoing. Also, we may have interested parties but, is Anton talking to them and, if so, is he baulking at potentially selling at a loss? If so, why would any potential owner commit funds?

The Omani that has been spotted with SJM at recent home games is Nasr Al Busaidi. He posted this photo on Instagram.

Really confusing why a bid for Hobbs was put in and now there are not 2 pennies to rub together.

Son many factors to consider and negotiations behind the scenes to formalize. I will just sit back and see what happens and hopefully the club will surprise us. If nothing happens and non funds are made available then I am sure we will be in the mix for the playoffs and that will keep things entertaining. Ultimately this is an entertainment industry so we will still have something to play for and everyone enjoys a good old grumble now and then

Maybe we thought Hobbs was worth it, but Sharp and an injured Baird aren't. Maybe, although I seriously doubt it because of the reputational risk, it was just a way of oxf*rd over Forest for shits and giggles.

JIM this is exactly why we will always be a second class club. no Big investment in the team. JM should have boosted the finances (as a business man) When Steve took us up the first time. The academy could have waited until we were an established Premier club. He did promised to extend the stadium if we stayed up that year, we did ,he didnt. Now investors see us as a yoyo club and its too late now.So until we get a far sighted owner this is the way it is going to be sadly.

Which is fine if there's a guarantee that we'll be promoted in the next couple of years, but there isn't.

The CAT1 status is a huge asset to the club going forward - it means that regardless of whether we're in the Premier League, or the Championship, we'll have a much better group of players in the academy, who can feed the first team, and, in the event that they transfer out to "big" clubs, generate an income in their own right.
If we'd waited 1, 2, 5 , 10 years, that boat would have sailed, and we'd be building the whole thing from the ground up - as it is, we've managed to retain most of the talent we already had in the academy, and add to it, due to the status (I know of at least one U18 player who turned down offers from two of the big four clubs to stay with us, the basis of his thinking being that as CAT1 we'd offer a similar level of coaching quality, but due to our size there's be a much bigger chance to break into the first team in years to come).

If we have nothing else to thank TSI/Anton for, then pushing for, and getting, CAT1 status is something that we should be extremely grateful for....

+fcuking1

It continues to amaze me how so many people are happy to moan about 'modern football' and its reliance on money and foreigners and the abandonment of local roots - yet show no interest in the development of home grown talent.

And when you have a thriving yoof set up, there are going to be dozens of kids who will not make the grade and some of these will drop down the footballing pyramid. At Windsor, we have a few players who have Academy experience which shows in their play. What the Academy will do is keep a lot of talented youngsters in the game and give them an opportunity to progress up the leagues in a different manner. I would predict that in 10-15 years time there will be a good number of youngsters who did not make the grade at Reading but get into the professional game after playing non league for a number of years.

Hull City FC want Shane Long but need to ship one out before putting in an offer. Knowing that Reading have a sell on fee, Hull ask Reading to bid for Jack Hobbs so that they can bid for Long and Reading get some money. Our "offer" is made public by Hull and forces Forest's hand. Hobbs signs for Forest, Hull buy Long and Reading get a few bob. There was never any intention of Reading buying Jack Hobbs.

I completely agree with that, although they've already signed Shane Long so clearly didn't need one to go to get the other in.

Have to lol at folk thinking a big sack of real money is handed over when a club signs a player. "Excellent! Now count out 800k so we can hand that to WBA for Shane Long!"

Jesus monkey Christ.

http://www.readingrumours.co.uk is essentially just a forum for gossip and banter, with rumours as well. Treat most of what you see on there with a large pinch of salt. I assume you're alluding to these latest posts?

The Omani's have agreed a deal to buy 100% of Reading FC's shares.

The news that leaked two weeks ago that a deal was done was somewhat premature, but a deal was indeed agreed in principle. That deal is still 'in principle', but the remaining sticking point has been the additional sale of the Millennium Madejski Hotel which is almost complete now.

I know many fans are impatient about this being completed, but not only is it more important to do a thorough due diligence (especially after the embarrassment Anton Zingarevich has caused Sir John Madejski, and they are indeed his words as well)

Also you have to bare in mind the deal has been on going since August, which isn't a great deal of time. In comparison the TSI take-over took a total of 9 months to complete, the only difference this time is that news leaked prematurely and that breeds impatience!

I wouldn't want to lead anyone on by giving you a timeline to completion, but there is an air of optimism that mid-February is do-able.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, and this is only my opinion. I believe that the buyout is already complete but it benifits TSI and SJM, but more importantly the new Omanis owners for it not to be announced until after the January transfer deadline has passed.

This removes pressure from the fan base expecting unrealistic signings during this window under the current first team coach. The Omani's will want to profit from overseas revenue streams therefore one would think that their strategy will be to appoint a coach with an international pedigree who will target and network players to appeal to a wider global audience.

I can't see the Omanis offering a transfer kitty to a coach who may not feature in their future strategy. The Omanis are buying RFC to gain premiership status with additional and important revenue streams also coming in from their homeland (audience and merchandise sales).

On top of this RFC will be the vehicle to raise the profile for football within Oman and the region, hence the connection hint of Omani Royal Family having an interest. Reading is moving in the right direction and I'm looking forward to this transfer window closing shut without us making a signing of Billy Sharp's caliba. Soon enough the new Reading FC will be showing its hand. Exciting times ahead. The big stage awaits.
