Maguire Not really nervous at the moment but will be later on I guess.

I'm not having any of this "oh well, we've done well to even get this far" BEFORE the game. That's just feathering the nest of defeat. You've got to go into it hellbent on winning and save the analysis for afterwards.

With respect, you having that admirable positive attitude will have bugger all affect on the game and it's outcome.(unless you're going to be in Cardiff)

HTH

You're absolutely right of course, but I just don't like the defeatist English attitude which lays down excuses ahead of the event. I honestly think it's part of the reason we often underperform as a nation in sport and that we see increasing success when we adopt a more confident, win first ask questions later approach.

It's a similar mentality to people saying that they would like to get to Wembley and even if we lose it will be a gr8 day out. Wembley in 95 and Cardiff in 2001 were two of my worst ever days out.

Yes we've done well to get into the play-offs, but it means pretty much nothing if we don't push on and get promoted.

I have a mixture of excitement, bizarre optimism and underlying dread going into tonight's game.

agreed with Mags.

If we do get to Wembley, it will be "Swansea are too good" (they are good BTW), then, if we win that one, "we'll get thrashed every week next season".

See you all at Wemblers (I need two tickets please).

What optimism I have is largely based around McDermott. His bullish effervescence makes him better suited to having a team in the play-offs than any of our previous play-off managers.

I agree with Baines, Mcdermott won't let them go down without a fight in this situation.

I think we have a strong chance of getting to Wembley if we can get the Cardiff fans on their players backs early on by frustrating them.

agreed on Mcdermott. To me he just seems to be one of life's (lucky?) winners. Hope so.

BTW, if we don't go up, he could be in West Ham's sights?

Agreed, certainly compared to Steve Coppell who always struck me as a little bit of a timid, cowardly creature, ill-suited to pressure cooker enviroment of knockout competition.

He's fairly low profile for them, and wouldn't be on their radar.

+1.

Probably +2,054 to be honest!

McDermott wouldn't leave for another club. His feet are always firmly on the ground. He got fired by Slough and Woking, he is grateful to be Readings manager and we are bloody grateful to have him. Unless Arsenal come calling, I think he will be here for many years to come.

He certainly wouldn't got to west ham with their ownership and debt.

With you guys on this. Incredible self belief within mcdermott, but without cockyness. I think we will win tonight and get trounced in the final.

I think our slow start has confused you all.

From game 16 to game 46 we have been better than Swansea, better than Cardiff, better then Forest and better than QPR.

That's two-thirds of a season. With a half-decent start we'd've been automatics with one of QPR/Norwich missing out.

In the same 31 games Cardiff have been mediocre (11th).

If it goes to form we should win.

I'm a big fan of ignoring great chunks of a season because it doesn't suit the outcome I want.

This is the simple crunching i like. I shall believe more after 15 minutes of the game have gone and we look on top of things. It will ether be a hellish experience or unadulterated joy.

If we ignore the 8 game winning streak, we're doomed. But that would just be silly.

I can confirm that your continued whining since snitchgate on AE underlines the above.
