Svlad Cjelli Is everyone taking this statement at face value?

When you go into a negotation do you really want to say to the world "look at all this money I've got to spend....."?

no..you want to say "undisclosed" as has become the way of the club ..both in and out ..

TheMaraudingDog Do pople actually belieive the accounts that RFC decide to show? Any club can release info hiding facts. Looks like JM is the master at this, not even the Glazers cover their tracks as well.

JM, milking RFC for millions while somehow keeping an army of divs happy.

You should leave this sort of poor quality wumming to Kes. You're much better than this. And believe me, that's damning you with faint praise.

A I'd have thought you'd be too intelligent to see through the smoke screens.

For a club that has no debt, no rental expenditure, a very sensible wage structure and a decent commercial revenue there is no way adding in the TV money, the prem money, the parachute payments and the absolute millions made on transfers that RFC is not making a huge coin. No way at all.

We are lucky the players play for free because they love Reading FC so much.

To be fair to the club (and other clubs) many deals are so complex that it would take them pages of technical detail to explain.

Typically a deal will have an initial fee, then lots of bolt ons, then a sell on fee etc etc.

Sometimes it is a one off cash deal and those seem to be disclosed - presumably as there are no other aspects to the deal.

If I recall rightly Sonko was sold for 2M - presumably no sell on fees etc (as we knew he was past his sell buy date). Kitson on the other hand was undisclosed but notionally 5.5M - but we probably never got that amount.

All just part of the complex world that we live in.

cmonurz A good fee so we couldn't say no, but I'm in the minority of Mills fans, and I think he's a player we won't miss until he's no longer an option. With no Zurab either, we're weak defensively unless we reinvest that cash.

You are not in a minority. The vocal minority of morons on here make you think that. Mills is clearly a top rate Championship defender and will, probably, be a pretty good PL one in the future too. You will find that among those who understand football and are not hung up on character he is recognised to be one of the best CBs we have seen for a few years.

Yeah I realise that, just always makes me laugh when I see our fans moaning about all these 'undisclosed' fees!

I didn't like Mills but his form was outstanding in the latter half of the season. Whilst the money we will get is good business it won't be if he is not adquately replaced. Playing Harte there is at best a short-term option.

I am intrigued by the BBC reference to his place of birth being Leicester. I always thought Cricklade was near Swindon.

Out of curiosity and not in any way being a wum. What has Mills done off the field that many think he's a bit of a pcunter? I genuinely do not know.

Overall I'm a fan of Millsy, and he has had a few brilliant games, the most spectacular
being away to Leicester last season. But I think you need to remember the many errors,
the times gone missing, the red mist etc.

For me the first thing required of a centre-back is consistency and reliability. We need to have confidence in a player
and know he will get it right 95/100, NOT get sent off, not give away the stupid foul on the edge of the box.

There's a fair possibility Millsy will make a decent Prem CB, if he matures, calms down, continues to learn
but personally I think Sonko at his best was better, Ingi was better. Overall I preferred Bikey.

(Waiting for the posts of derision)

Apparently, he was rude to someone off here when they spoke to him or something. God forbid he might want a quiet night out without being pestered by pissed up RFC fans or whatever.

But he is inconsistent. He plays well in front of the cameras (he was brilliant against Everton for example)- but he was very poor in many other league games. His temperament is suspect. I think he was quite lucky not to get sent off more. He makes many rash challenges and some of his distribution is dire.

So it is not just about character. I genuinely think Pearce is the better player of the two. He is less rash and his distribution is much better.

Undoubtedly Mills has potential, but whether or not it is ever realized at PL level is open to question.

I am very rarely pleased to see a player go but in this case I really think that we might be better off without him in the longer run.

People forget how young he is. Was Ingi/Sonko as good as him at the same age? Of course he's still learning - he will mature and I honestly thought he'd stay and that McD would nurture him into a Prem player who could be an ever present in one of the big 4 teams. Time will tell if Sven will be able to.

Wasn't there also the gesture to the fans the season before last? I wasn't at the game but recall it caused a bit of a stir.
He does also come across as very gobby....

That was ON the field, Balti asked about OFF the field.

I'd be interested in some examples of Mills being "gobby" btw - I think it's a complete myth. All this "he thinks he's better than he is" etc - I've NEVER seen any evidence of it. :|

Are you saying you haven't see him gobbing off to the ref??? There were games last season when he'd already been booked when he then kept clearly sounding off at the ref.
I do agree that he's still young though and will mature. To give him credit he did improve over the final stretch of last season.
