Terminal Boardom TB approves of this one immensely.

That must come as a great relief to the board, NH and NA.

RR is certainly relieved.

winchester_royal ^Tbf I don't think that's too bad given it's only early June

Exactly. I'm renewing but I'm waiting to the end of the renewal period before doing so...

If BM had made this signing he would have been slated for buying a 30+ year old, why is it any different for Nigel???

I don't recall any significant slating for signing Harte, Shorey, or Roberts.

Tbf, those criticising the signing of Harte were doing it because he'd spent 5 years in the wilderness, most recently playing for Carlisle, rather than age. Those criticising the signing of Shorey were citing his previous behaviour at the club, rather than age, as reasons for pessimism.

so there was criticism, and you just disagree with it?

Harte and Shorey weren't exactly in high-demand though, signing Bridge is a real coup.

I was merely pointing out that the criticism of the signings was not primarily age-rel8d as one of the above posters was suggesting

Are you talking performance, or McDermott signing them? Plenty of slating in performance at various times. Maybe I ignored it. Although Harte is long ago enough I guess I'm not sure I'd remember if I didn't like the signing let alone if anyone else did.

Age of a player is irrelevant as any signing is a gamble it's just that a fan's perception is set by such fripparies as there is little else to go on until you see the full picture a few weeks into the season.

Seem to recall Jimmy Quinn was 32 or so when he arrived at the club and that didn't stop him having possibly his best years as a footballer. Or Trevor Morley who was 34 when he arrived in 1995 ....

certainly remember lots of people moaning about signing an ancient player who had dropped down th eleagues after a great career at earlier clubs.

tbf of course, these people will probably moan about any thing

Personally, I think there is a concern with age regarding this signing. But it is significantly less than previous players due to the fact that he has just finished a blinding season, still has pace and is a quality player with no gamble on whether he can rediscover long past form.

Perhaps not a long term prospect which is disappointing but if we are signing older players I'm happy that they are of this calibre.

Nope, it was the whole lot. Age, pace, Carlisle, etc etc.

Haters got proven wrong

Fair enough, but even though age was a criticism, had we signed him after being named POTS in the Championship I don't think there'd have been anywhere near as much hate.
