Sanguine Lol @ brendy and sandman. Had no idea they were 9 year old girls.

‘But, but, he’s wweeeallllly howwwwible!!!’

The club and squad have moved on, and moreover Guthrie has been playing well for some time.

With a squad including Bridge, Williams, McCarthy, Drenthe, Guthrie, Pog and Alf, soon brendy won’t have anyone left who he doesn’t expect ‘more of because he’s a better player’.

  :|

not said anything of the sort

just said i like my players to be trustworthy, mentally strong and commited to the club.
he showed he wasnt. and i wont be jizzing over pics of him like you until he proves he now is.

lol at you if you dont expect you better players to be better than those theyre supposedly better than.
i do expect that, and in the 2nd half he delivered that, and i enjoyed him delivering that, and every time he delivers that, a little bit more of my mistrust will be eaten away, until none remains.

i simply said i couldnt say he was the best player on the pitch for the whole game, due to his first half performance, so i gave MOM to someone i thought performed throughout, though i still made guthrie one of 4 players to recieve a 7/10 rating, and only one player got higher than that. if thats h8, then i dont know why people are so worried by h8.

lol at making out it means that much to me, and also lol at making it into some unreasonable thing to expect a player to play when asked.
just lol at you basically.

Alexander Litvinenko
sandman And thus Guthrie is given yet another excuse. You don't stand up in front of the entire squad and apologise to them for your behaviour if you've done nothing wrong.

You need to check the meaning of the word apologise, m8. It's saying sorry and asking for forgiveness.

If the squad can accept an apology and give forgiveness, why don't you seem to be able to? Or is it "One strike and you're out" on Planet Sandman?

lol - see wife sleeping around analogy

apology is the first step in the process
and asking for forgiveness is the next.

you can accept an apology, but still hold back on total forgiveness, and require extra work to be put in to prove that forgiveness is actually warranted.

plus its anyones right to refuse to accepty an apology, if the act being apologised for is particularly bad.

He is an ex-Liverpool player which means cmonurz immediately has to leap to his defence no matter what he does.

YNWA and all that bollox.

West Stand Man

Guthrie is, quite clearly, a very able player. He probably had a fall out with he last manager. The inability to manage that fall out is a leadership failure. We are now beginning to see the real ability Guthrie brings to this squad and, once the defence gets used to passing him the ball when he comes deep to fetch it we will really see his worth.

good player. agreed.
and agree brian, must take his share of blame for the fall out.
but to absolve guthrie completely and put it all down to brian is LOLable.

if i have a manager who manages me in a way i dont enjoy, makes decisions i disagree with etc
then it is down to me to make him aware of this, and make sure i prove to him that my way is better than his.
if he's unreasonable or out of order, and refuses to listen id possibly take it higher/to HR but most likely id start looking for work elsewhere.

the point where i just flat refused to work for him, or do what he asks, & walk out of work in a big huff would be the day i lose the argument, and would be rightly disciplined, possibly sacked.

he will have to do slightly more to prove to me that hes worth it, simply for the reasons that hes a better player than most in the league, and many on our squad. i dont want him to look AS good as the other midfielders etc, i want him to look better.
he walked out on the club, and refused to play in a vitally important game. thats going to take some making up for imo, and thats how it should be. im sure he'll achieve this quite quickly if he keeps playing like he did in the 2nd half

I don't think I attributed the whole thing to the manager. Obviously the refusal to travel was Guthrie. My point is that the subsequent failure to deal with it was a lack of leadership, and that is the manager's problem.

think thats utter bollox.
think brian showed perfect leadership in punishing danny, but also moving to reconcilliation, making it clear danny had apologised to the team etc, and putting him straight back into the squad when he was fully fit and the punishment had ended.
a lack of leadership imo would have been brian saying- its ok danny, your a good player, so im going to allow your sulky fit without punishment.

tactically he misused him, and clearly his man management style failed with danny for whatever reason.

Ian Royal
melonhead
Royal Lady Where were you last season? McD didn't play him and he got the arse. It was then reported that he refused to travel. McD was quoted as saying he needed to sort his head out. Guthrie made a public apology - mcD, having bought him in, gave him little chance in the team. When he did play, and under Adkins mostly, I could see he could be a real asset to us. The "allegedly" I wrote is to do with the stuff I just wrote. I then said I thought McD had handled him appallingly. Hth.

lol at that making it ok to refuse to play

No one (at least no one with half a braincell, which I sometimes think might rule out RL) has ever suggested he was right to refuse to play. But people had sympathy for his position without condoning the action, because of the piss poor handling of him and performances without him.

absolutely, I have complete sympathy for his situation.Brian is responsible for how he dealt with him in the run up to the fall out
i just think danny is responsible for dannys actions. and thats the end of it.
if i acted like that, id be punished, and rightly. i wouldnt sulk about it.

Sanguine
LoyalRoyalFan He has played quite well since Adkins has come in, but his attitude off the pitch has been a little suspect, wouldn't you agree?

Ever been a bit of a cnut?

Lucky people don't hold it against you until the end of time, really, isn't it?

Forgive and forget is one way of looking at it.

A good season under his belt might change it for me.

wont even take that long. a few games in a row where he looks like the 2nd half danny, and ill be more than happy to give him my love, trust and admiration again

Extended-Phenotype Guthrie played very well indeed. Good job he refused to travel to Sunderland to sit inconsequently on the bench or his strange hateclub would have nothing to clutch.

It’s not even about his refusal to travel. That’s just ammunition. The real reason is that fans were polarised when McD dropped him. Some became critics of McD who wanted to see our football improve and Guthrie given a chance. Defenders of McD didn’t like this criticism.

Guthrie not travelling was literally the best thing to happen to Melonhead ever.

couldnt give a toss about brian being criticised. im pretty clear i think it was the right decision to get rid when we did, and his failure to get danny playing well was a big part of that.
my feelings on this had bugger all to do with brian, and everything to do with danny, how he was playing, an his attitude. all of which he is ultimately responsible for.
the ONLY thing that matters to me in this whole sorry mess, is dannys refusal to travel/play

he refused to play a game of football, for the club he was employed by.
my club. would literally feel the same if that was anyone.

so your forgiveness marker is more sympathetically placed than mine.
well done you. you are either a nicer person(doubtful) than i, or just a bit of a doormat, who will instantly accept anything, if its apologised for afterwards.

I’m just not arsed, mate. All I want is to see all Reading players playing well. Continuing to be all red faced and spittle-lipped about a bloke falling out with his manager nearly a year ago doesn't interest me.

PS. well done on yet another straw man*.
