RoyalBlue
windermere_royal people do leave their seat but don`t leave the ground. you see there are actually TVs in the concourse to watch the remaining few minutes, then they can make a quick getaway at the final whistle

Oh you sod! Now you've told everyone and it will be more difficult to get a decent place to see the screen!

Nah thanks, it's fine we'll just stay and watch the game in the stands

Hmm, what to make of that...

Back 5 - no issues I think we're pretty solid, whether it's Gunter or Kelly at RB. Liking the Morrison/Pearce partnership - two big strong and committed young CB's.

Midfield - Guthrie looks for an outlet and tries to pick a pass but gets closed down quickly in this league, limiting his effectiveness. Williams looks a good solid player who can cope with the pace and rigours of the Chumpionship. Jem very unlucky and will be missed. Not sure what to say about Akpan though :| .

Wide players - well Blackman isn't a winger, or a striker, so what's he doing in the team? Royston - one of those frustrating players to watch - maybe the new Mass Sarr ??

Up front it's well documented that Alf can't play in a 4-5-1, but he's easily our most effective striker, so why not play the system that gets him goals? Felt sorry for him when he came on and was feeding on scraps and trying to win long balls against two 6'+ CB's.

For me Adkins hasn't got a workable game plan at the moment -the wingers aren't delivering any quality balls into the box and we're not capable of playing through the middle. McCarthy can't play it short as the opposition's front two sit on the shoulders of the receiving defenders and therefore it gets knocked long and into the midfield fray.

Last night we got lucky - Leeds should have scored a minute before we did and we sneaked a last gasp winner. I actually would have subbed our sub and taken Akpan off at half time and gone 4-4-2 with HRK on the wing and Blackman up front with Alf second half. But then what do I know?...

To be fair Cmatt you need your bins emptied and your supermarket shelves with products on them. But you look down on others, makes you no better than someone criticising early leavers.

Although it wasn't the prettiest or most entertaining of games I thought our general performance against Leeds was much improved than against an admittedly more capable Brighton side on Sunday. We created a lot more chances and good opportunites and we looked more like the players actually knew each other.

Guthrie and Pearce were excellent. Yes Guthrie attempted some hollywood balls when trying to catch Leeds out early but he also kept the ball very well and got the fullbacks in the game on many occassions and his performance was infinitely better than on Sunday. What I also liked was his willingness to do the hard graft as well, especially once he'd done his arm/shoulder in and was still covering ground and making saving tackles on the edge of our box. I don't think Pearce really put a foot wrong all game either. In the air he wasn't really troubled and his reading of the game again saw him make a number of well timed and important interceptions and to top it off he looked very composed and in control on the ball.

Both fullbacks did a good job too. It was pleasing to see Kelly given the nod over Gunter as he's just that bit more accomplished and steady which I prefer over Gunters athleticism. On the other side I think Bridge was excellent too. For those that have been critical of Drenthe (who was carry a knock after 35 minutes) he and Bridge look like they've the makings of a pretty good combination down the left and they linked up really well 3 or 4 times in the first half to allow one or the other to get balls into the box. That's promising in my eyes.

The rest of the forward players were a bit disappointing though. Blackman can't seem to find any end product, chooses far too many wrong options and is pretty woeful in front of goal. Robson-Kanu did ok, and was out of position of course, but he's not a long term answer in that role and both Williams and Akpan, for players of their size, really need to man up a bit. Both were far too easy to knock off the ball and they lost too many 50/50's by just not being strong enough. If we're going to persist with a 3 man midfield then they need to toughen up a bit and play with a bit more physical intensity as they both big lads.

Overall I thought we deserved the 3 points as we created pretty much all the best scoring opportunities. Yes Leeds probably should've scored just before we did, but if Morrison had taken one of his similar chances or if Akpan or Williams did the same with their chances, or Robson-Kanu hadn't cocked up the 2 on 1 then we'd have been well ahead by then anyway so the ifs and buts of missed chances works more in our favour.

On Amazon people aren't always fussed with the in between scores, it's either great 5* or shit 1*. People also get progressively more critical if they've been let down by the seller before. So a kettle might be a 3*, but because the toaster you bought from them a couple of months ago gives you electric shocks, you give it 1*.

Akpan and Blackman weren't terrible on Wednesday, but people are a bit cross with them because their previous performances haven't been up to scratch and they haven't shown any reason to believe they are Championship standard, let alone Premier League standard.

At least Akpan has shown flashes of brilliance in the Premier League. 2 contenders for 'pass of the season' 12/13 - one at Newcastle and then at home to Chelsea

Trouble is that other than those passes he has generally looked terrified of the football. I think being terrified of a football is perhaps a hindrance in a game involving a football.

But at least one of them was a complete mis-hit that happened to end up a brilliant pass - but much more by luck than judgement.

Maybe it's not the football he's scared off, but the potential reaction from the stands if he's not perfect when he touches it. If you place someone in an over-critical environment fear of failure can become all-encompassing.
