andrew1957 Have to say I am also waiting for the inevitable 11pm announcement from NH along the lines of.

"We tried really hard today to get a deal for Glen Murray over the line, but unfortunately it was not quite meant to be. But at least we can reassure our fans that we were very serious about adding to the squad today and it is only circumstances completely beyond the club's control that we did not quite manage to sign a player this transfer deadline day".

That is good enough for me. As long as we try it doesn't matter if don't actually sign anyone!

You posted that in January too. Well done.

blueroyals I'd rather we keep the 1.5m until next year

he's not going to make the difference between play-offs or even promotion, so why bother? sign him or not - we'll still be mid table.

Agreed - said much the same earlier today. Pointless signing to me.

I'm sure that logic will appease a disillusioned fanbase.

andrew1957 He is nearly 31 and only had one season above League 1 level where he scored a lot of goals. He is clearly not PL standard and is a short term addition for us and so if we offer more than a 2 year contract it would be certifiably insane and even that would be stretching it. After a season of barely playing in the PL he could turn out to be yet another Drenthe.

I know he is not a striker but I would rather we had kept McAnuff and they are similar age.

Personally I would rather we buy an up and coming lower league striker or if we cannot find one - that we just persevere with our Academy players.

For the record my opinion has not changed from this morning. Cannot see the point of this signing.

If I were a season ticket holder rather than someone who lives a little too far for home games, I would be furious. It's not the lack of initiative and seeing clubs like Brentford with seemingly more ambition. Rather, the stone wall of silence, half truths and general lack of empathy with the fan base. Nowadays, I only have an emotional attachment to the club, but I am frustrated. Goodness knows how the regular supporters are feeling.

But equally there is little point buying players for the sake of it that are no better than our own Academy products.

Personally I am excited to see how the likes of Kuhl, Stacey and Tanner et al do this season. As I don't expect any chance of promotion this season the next best thing is to see the young players coming through and it will be worth attending games to see that IMO.

Would they bother giving him a medical if the details hadn't been worked out? :?

So why not go for a better option, players who can shine at this level and prove an inspiration to our youngsters?
