Shouldn't there be some sort of punishment?

I know, I know, but someone had to say it......

The article says he's a life-long football fan but the Reading - Bradford game was his first live match.

He should be forced to watch Reading for 3 years. That would be a fitting punishment that with the current team would put a clear message out to others that RFC treats this sort of behaviour as totally unacceptable.

a £27 victim surcharge

Is that normal for a victimless crime?

Completely. Every sentence has a victim surcharge - these are pooled centrally and used where appropriate, they don't just pass Reading FC the £27.

Which is a shame, as we could do with it.

Someone linked his Facebook name to a Reading related link on his banning order last night so checked out his profile. All his mates think he's a 'ledge'

He's a Liverpool fan.

One of the early articles identified him as a Liverpool fan, and several posts he'd made on Liverpool forums confirmed that.

For a while now he's been claiming to be a Reading fan, I guess to try and keep the ban to the Mad Stad only.

From the Guardian today...

Sumner, who works as a dry liner, is a lifelong amateur footballer, and represented Reading Schools in a national final in 2006. Supporting Reading on 16 March was a one-off by Sumner, who is a Liverpool fan and not a regular attender at football matches,

Fairly pointless use of the word 'lifelong', he's only 20 and by the look of him I doubt he plays much any more. He used to play for a decent local youth side though.

I would, genuinely, be more pissed off at the fine than at a 3 year ban, and I'm a ST holder.

Although the money saved on 3 years of ST would more than offset the fine.

Ian Royal There was an another article where it says his mates had been jokingly baiting him to do it before and during the game, but he just decided to actually do it when he did.

And that he'd been to matches a long time ago with family iirc.
