URZZZZZ Reports suggest that Reading have agreed to pay Watford £10m should they gain promotion this season.

The fee is all part of the deal they have struck to bring striker Matej Vydra to Madejski Stadium.

Royals have initially paid £2.5m up front to land the frontman on loan for the season and they will also cover his wages.

But should they secure promotion to the Premier League, the Czech international will join on a permanent basis for £10m.

If we go up that (10M buy clause) will be good business for both clubs. Watford make a good profit and we have a good striker.

£10m is peanuts for a player of his calibre "in today's market".

Just because a couple of club bid monumentally excessive funds for a couple of average strikers doesn't make it a market. There are still quality players around for a fraction of this sum, just takes a smart manager/scouting system to get them.

Can you all listen to yourselves? 10m for Vydra? He isn't worth half that, the price is large because Watford were cocks and just signed him for big money this summer.

Words fail me. I swear some on here think the more we spend on a player, the better they become.

Lers hope he's as good at scoring in a blue and white shirt as against them. Looks deadly. Him and Sa could be everything we'd hoped Pog and ALF could be at this level. A modern day Curo and Butler of the second tier. :)

I'd agree. Someone will panic buy Austin in Jan so i doubt he'll be it.

Yeah, can't believe no one took a punt on Austin for £15m, or Jordan Rhodes at the same price for that matter...

I am surprised that people were willing to bid £12m but not the extra 3. but Rhodes and Austin shouldn't be the same price, Austin has done it in the prem. Still can't believe he hasn't been given the opportunity yet though tbh.

I agree, can't see why you would pay £12m but not £15m.

IMO though Austin isn't worth much more than Rhodes, yes Austin scored 18 in the PL last season but Rhodes actually has a better record in the Championship and in League One.

I think both are capable of getting 20+ plus a season in the PL, as Austin has already proven himself at that level he is worth more, but not much more.

How much someone is worth is entirely subjective though and all value is skewed by stupid bids like £9m for gayle..etc

If we have 15+ of those at the Mad then people should be very happy.

25-1 on Sky Bet now.

Anyway, had my early season punt : 11-8 on the Ipswich game, 10-3 on a top 6, and 25-1 ew on Vydra. If all that comes in it'll pay fir a pint (or can of Carabao) before each game.

Norfolk Royal I like the way in this Vydra vid it seems that all the goals are against us. At least someone else will be on the end of it now.

That's what we all think, the reality is different

Ever seen a stag party and thought "I wish I could join them, they seem like a great bunch of lads"? ;)

Not sure if this has been referred to anywhere else within the thread but it would seem that a few of the Hornet crew have reservations about Vydra's loan.

As in:-
Whatever the rights and wrongs of Vydra leaving for the season, and whether or not he could have cut the mustard in the PL etc, I'd just like the state one fact. The two most successful seasons we've had since our relegation from the top flight nine years ago, were last year and 2012-13. These were the two seasons Vydra played for us. Of course, many others contributed too, but I think we saw the impetus he made when he first joined, the loss when he left after his first season and thus the impact he had last season when he came back. Nervous.

And then:-
I think you are discounting the fact that Reading play a formation not too dissimilar to our current one. If anything, he might learn the requirements for our formation whilst on loan, after all, he's got a pretty good coach to work with at Reading. He may come back fully ready to work in the type of formation that is seemingly required at this level and be an asset for us in the future. Try to find some positives in the situation, after all, we've all had our opinion on the matter but it's not going to change in the immediate future.

Followed by a reminder that:-
He isnt coming back,if Reading go up.

He seems to know what formation we play, has anyone else worked it out yet?
