jonboy I thought Asaba was ok - I think he was sold by Burns when he took control and he just didn't fancy the look of him - probably not scottish enough also he was probably on a very good wage - burns could get rid and bring in some even worse players. We never really used his best asset his pace, it was always in the air too much. I think TB also signed Primus who again I thought was a pretty decent signing.

Terry Bullivant signed Primus, yes. He was a good signing. Shame he buggered off on a Bosman.

I think Asaba was injured for most of the time when Tommy Burns took over before being sold, so therefore Tommy Burns never really saw the best of him. What a twat.

In the Irish newspaper report above it sounds like we may have upset the Cork lot and burnt some bridges "My last meeting with reading was far from cordial but so be it"

Also is it me or is it strange that the Cork Manager has to come over to England to try and finalise a deal, surely we'd go over to him (unless there are benefits for him!)??? Strange!

Good point well made, but it's still strange - Can't imagine Hammond travelling to Spain for instance to try and sort out the selling of a Reading player to Real Madrid!!

So it looks like he'll sign by close Monday then if the EP is anything to go by with an offer in the region of £250k being made....

Bennet alongside Ingimarsson on Tuesday anyone? Somehow I think not!

Huntley & Palmer Amazing really how the transfer fee for Bennett seems like a drop in the ocean now for a squad player, whereas four or five years ago this would be a large investment for the club and you would expect the player to slot straight into the first XI

Err what about when we shelled out 750,000 over ten years ago for Caskey........

You didn't really read what I said. This fella is going to be cover, Caskey walked straight into the first team.

Plus the Caskey deal was pretty much in isolation around that time in terms of the amount we paid.

Forgotten about Asaba a year later for £800,000

Christ, you're right, we were chucking money at players around that time. No wonder JM is a bit tighter these days, TB1 and TB2 really fcuked around with his cash.

It was still the case that we'd be spending £250-350k on players who were going to pretty much walk straight into the team though, especially defenders like Casper or Primus.

We may have paid out a few big fee's but the majority of first teamers were coming in at £300k or less.

All he's doing is trying to get the best deal for his club.

Come Jan.31st he'll do a deal.I'm sure.

To be honest I think if it hadn't been for the Sonko's injury they'd have told Cork where to go. 200k plus for someone who's never played in a big league, is 25 and out of contract at the end of the season seems a decent deal.

I guess Cork are desperate not to be seen as a selling club, but I wish these little teams would just roll over when the big boys come knocking!!

Well, we were once a little club. 300k for any Cork player is ridiculous though.

Seems like Bennet is a done deal now, and I am sure that he will prove to be a good signing. Will also hopefully settle in quickly with Doyle, Long and Hunty around - Are we becoming Reading Irish!?!?!

Interesting interview with him on the Cork City Website (Have checked and its not been mentioned before)

Listening between the lines he would relish the move !?!
