I think that this performance was not unexpected as SSC intimated that after palying for an hour on Saturday with only 10 men that he was concerned about tiredness, so all in all even though the performance lacked spark we got 3 points and kept a second successive clean sheet so not all doom and gloom, do have a few worries about losing marcus for a few matches, in all respect to him I aint sure that ed will cut it at this level.

I'm sorry, but I don't accept the excuse of "tiredness" - they're professional bloody athletes - they shouldn't be "tired" after playing a game on Saturday with only 10 men for the best part of it. Thank heavens we're not still in the Carling Cup and never progress much in other cup games.

Yes they're "professional bloody athletes," and so are Barnsley and Blackpool. If our lot have been doing significantly more running in the 72 hours before a game, it stands to reason that their stamina is going to be slightly lesser than the opposition. At the level of "professional bloody athletes," it doesn't take very much tiredness to lead to disaster.

You can not buy it if you like, but it's broadly accepted from the lower leagues to internationals that playing more than one game in a week cam impact upon your performance. Coppell, for once, didn't stick with the same team and complain about it afterward. He was proactive, and I'm very happy to see it.

I am a professional at what I do, but I still get tired sometimes. That really is a poor argument and you should be ashamed.

Re. 10 men v. Barnsley.
On the radio this morning, Murty said the stats from the Reading team were extraordinary. He was referring to the miles run per player.

The only reason they can play a normal game is because they're professional atheletes. Add a significant increase in workload for a game 3 days before and it's common sense tiredness could be a problem.

By that arguement, you're a professional bloody teacher and should be able to cope with an increase in your class size of an additional 5 students for a week and still provide exactly the same quality of teaching in the week after, as the week before they were there. Never going to happen is it? Because the b'stards will have ground you down.

I'm not a professional bloody teacher.

I'm obviously in the minority here and I'll take my berating like a woman, but I just think citing tiredness as a reason for not performing well, when they've had 3 days between games is unprofessional.

Try looking at it simply. There are two teams of professional athletes who both played 90 mins on Saturday. Ability aside you would expect them to be reasonably equal in fitness. One of the teams loses a player meaning the remaining 10 have to work harder for 60 minutes. Which of the two team would be more tired in their following match?
Not rocket science.

 So, in three days, these professional athletes have not had sufficient rest to make up for the tiredness experienced in one game? They're not as fit as they should be then, shirley?

I am a professional teacher, and I spend the whole time feeling that people have already been sent off from my team

1 against 30 is never fair unless you're Spartan. But being a Spartan wouldn't go down well in a modern School. I hear sex with the boys is frowned on.

Poor parallel there I'm afraid because that's just what the sodding politicians believe teachers can do!
