Have we replaced them with equal ability?

You think Hunt is a good a player as Kitson?
Armstrong as good as Shorey?
Cisse as good as Sidwell?
Duberry as good as Sonko?

The only one close for me is Duberry being as good as the Sonko that left, he's better. As good as the Sonko we saw before his injury? No way

Is Bikey or Duberry the repalcement for Sonko ? Bikey is certainly a better player

Armstrong or Shorey ? Defensively I think Armstrong is better. He doesn't add as much to the attack as Shorey but since Shorey left Hunt has taken on the role of supplier from the left.

Hunt or Kitson ? Very different players. Our attack as a whole has looked better this season than last - but then it should do ! Hunt does not have the touch that Kitson had but works harder and probably fits the team better.

Cisse and Sidwell ? Well i did say 3 out of 4 !!!

None are clear cut from the 3, but I don't think it is outrageous to say that the 3 incoming players are performing just as well as the 3 who left would have done.

Agreed

Leaving Bikey out of it,
Duberry is a significant improvement on the Sonko that left
Armstrong is certainly a lot better than the Shorey that left - reliable in defence match after match
And the Kitson that left was on the wane and a bad influence, as he himself has admitted
And we haven't adequalety replaced Sidwell yet, with anyone

If we ever get as good a central midfielder in the next 5 years then i will be very surprised. Sidwell has been one of the best players ever to have worn the shirt. You only get players like him (attitude and talent wise) every 5 or so years

Platypuss
bcubed Why would you change your own views based on these? Don't you believe what you saw at the game? Do you not have the courage of your convictions?

Why should anyone assume that they had a perfect view of every incident?

Not what I said
The implication was that if enough people said that X happened he would agree, even if he saw Y.
He's since explained that this isn't what he meant

Sebastian Where did the other thread go?

Was Schards right in the end?
You were both wrong. After Schards wrote, there was almost instant progress (followed by regress, but that's life.) After you wrote, there was none.

Broadly correct, wrong on some of the details.

After I wrote what, exactly?

 I was convinced Seahawk wrote that.

I still see progress. Look at Handbags Harris' thread for some good news on the future of the team. Whether we win the playoffs or not the key to our future is who winds up in charge and how they handle the big decisions we have on players. There is talent on the team as it stands and there is hope. That's all I want in supporting and following a club.

I agree totally with this. I would rather keep SSC if I had to choose. Who else would want the job - let alone be good enough to do the job?

I still think there is a lack of progress as IF we dont go up we will almost certainly lose the following players in the summer

Doyle
Hunt
Marek
Bikey
Harper
Lita

Add to that the old boys who should probably be moved on (Murty, Gunnarsson and possibly Marcus) and you dont have much of a Championship standard squad left

The bright prospects in Pearce, Karacan, Henry and Kelly are a positive and in Armstrong, Rosenoir, Hunt and less so the aging Doobs and Ivar we have some experience and tried n tested Championship quality to give a solid base to work from

Progress and a great team in the waiting I cant quite see though. We will need some serious wheeling and dealing in the summer to put replace the talents we are going to lose to bigger pay checks and old age
