Bugger off Celtic - as far as I'm concerned he'd be moving from a Championship side to a Championship side if he went to Celtic.

Newcastle & West Ham will be the front runners should we fail to get promoted

On the cheap if so. They wont spend above £4m for Long. They're looking at Preston's Billy Jones as a cheapo signing too. :|

I, for one, will firebomb Neil Lennon's house if this happens.

The Goat was fed Bugger off Celtic - as far as I'm concerned he'd be moving from a Championship side to a Championship side if he went to Celtic.

Would be a step down, but if he can get 20 goals in the Championship he can get 50 in the SPL.

Shane Long will NEVER, EVER get 20 goals in the Championship

Celtic can offer regular honours though, albeit only Scottish ones, and forays into the European (or UEFA) Cup every year, Shane's unlikely to get any of that at West Ham or Newcastle.

He wouldn't last 2 minutes in the English Premiership though. Celtic would be an ideal move for him. He'll score for fun up there and maintain his confidence. In the EPL he'd struggle. Clubs aren't as patient as we have been in order to get some consistency out of him.

Reports say £6mill rated Long, can see a bidding war here, Morrison to Norwich for £2m, kinda think all this could be kept quite till the end of the season, can only unsettle. No transfer talk for the last 4 weeks, make it a new rule.

Shane to Everton was the back page headline in the North Wales Daily Post yesterday as well.

"Everton Long for Shane" - see what they did there?

Nothing really new in the main story though; usual hashed together old quotes from Shane saying how he wants to play in the Premier League but wants to take Reading back there, etc etc. Just lines like "Moyes eyes bid for Royals stiker".

What worries me about the whole "Long to Everton" story is that it seems to me to be what I would describe as an "Agents" story; nowhere are there any direct quotes from Moyes or Everton that they are even looking at Shane, just the fact that someone from Everton's backroom team watched the Leeds v Reading game the other night (they could just have easily been looking at Gradel for example - after all, Everton brought Beckford from Leeds last season...). For this reason, allied to the £6M price tag (which is the supposed price which, if offered, would allow Shane to move on) suggests a story planted to a friendly journo by Shanes agent.

Any one know if Shane's agent is the same guy who is Stephen Hunt's agent?

Beckford was not bought from Leeds. His contract was up and left on a free. But I get your drift.

NR_Royal http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1381338/Celtic-make-Republic-Ireland-striker-Shane-Long-summer-target.html

Nothing we didn't already know.

"Long has tried to distance himself from the speculation, saying at the weekend: 'It's always nice to hear good things but I try not to take too much notice of it. I just concentrate on scoring goals for Reading."

He said this at the weekend did he... :?
