It would certainly be interesting to see what it feels like. We've done it the honest, decent way, and have the records to prove it, so why not have a look at the other side of the coin... Just for a bit?

Seriously though, let's not become a big ol' bunch of insufferable morons if we end up being as minted as we could be, eh?

Incidentally, my Facebook status is currently a link to the Daily Mail article and the comment "If McDermott goes, so do I"... I think I could regret that at some point. I hope not. Love Big Mac.

Lets be honest, we all know Sir John's mindset and planning. He is very shrewd and will only ever do something that benefits him and Reading FC. I know that SJM will not flog us to some dodgy businessman. Whatever the outcome, it can surely only be positive. I only want the ability to have more competitive wages and the ability to bring in a couple players in the £2m bracket. I do not want mindless buying like Leicester.

But if this businessman does turn out to a billionaire then F*ck it lets the buy the league. McD is the best manager in the league and would know who to buy!!

Me too really. I hope it doesn't mess up the whole structure of the club. We're such a stable club. I don't know if I really want this.

The thread and the story itself has already seemingly reached the pious hesitancy stage. So we might spend sh*t-loads and go bankrupt? Well, I've already registered the domain name 'AFC Reading' and the ensuing application to join the Combined Counties League brings with it the prospect of taking over Hartney Wintney for the day and giving Royal Rother a good shooing at Stag Meadow; all of this must surely be far preferrable a concept than tomorrow's diagonal-ball punt-fest with Hull, for instance.

The Law of Unintended Consequences

by blueroyals » 21 Jan 2012 00:20

Also disliking this. I was starting to enjoy seeing youth coming through, but this undoubtedly means big spending etc. is on the horizon. For this to be perfect all I would want is a few extra million allocated to transfers, and for Madejski (regardless of all the slagging off he receives), Hammond and McDermott to stay. Obviously there will be something written in the contract ensuring that the club remains the way that it is, SJM isn't stupid enough to simply sell off the club he has slaved over for the last 20 years and not give a sh1t what the new owner does with it.

I just hope the ticket prices remain as low as they are, and the club is just as transparent as it is now under new ownership. The fact that Madejski is spinning this as simply "new investment" is quite encouraging, and I'll remain sceptical about this "takeover" I keep hearing about.

Regardless, the transfer window shuts in 10 days so I doubt we'll see any real activity until the summer.

This is all so surreal, we've all been waiting for this moment for so long now (and complaining about the current regime all the way through) it's strange to see it happening. The law of unintended consequences springs to mind here; I don't want to end up looking back in a few years and missing the madman. I love this club and the way it is run, while hating clubs like Leicester. I don't want Reading to be like that.

Sorry Folks, But I am Spooked

by RepressedRoyal » 21 Jan 2012 00:35

I can hardly believe that I was commenting on a post two days ago saying "of course we are a selling club" and now this. I have to say I am worried by all this carry on folks. I worry for the structure, I worry for McDermott, I worry for the soul of the club, I am just not convinced Russian billionaires are what this club needs. What are we to them? A route to be accepted in British society?

I love this club, I love the fact that we have the moral high ground over Leicester and Portsmouth and all the other scumbags. Despite all the changes in the last 20 years and my indifference to SJM I have always felt that we are a community club and going to Watford away last week made me realise what it is to be a Reading fan, my 15 year old son and I had a great day out with genuine Reading fans even if the football wasn't that great.

Maybe I am getting old and pedantic, but I am not excited by this, I enjoyed an away win at Watford more than I enjoyed getting beaten 4-0 at home by Arsenal surrounded by the Berkshire middle classes in the Upper West who tutted at me when I showed passion for my side. I was born in Reading, I loved this club when Pat Earles and Martin Hicks were here, I loved this club when Gooding, Quinn and Gilkes took us to heights we had never experienced before and I loved this club when Coppell did the unthinkable, it was a momentous period for us all, all achieved in the right way and respected across the nation, a bit like what Swansea are doing now. Yeah, they beat us in the Play Off final, but what a great team, built on the right principles.

Now we are faced with this. I really hope the intentions are good and the club is going on to great things, but someone please tell me where the benefit is for a Russian Billionaire/Gangster to buy our club? How long is it before McDermott is not the right man? How long is it before this guy chucks this particular toy out of his pram? How long is it before the soul of this club is ripped out by a meglomaniac?

I want to be happy, but as someone who has followed this club from Darlington to Plymouth, I fear that someone who doesn't know what it is to be a Royal, is about to rip our club to bits.

I hope I am wrong!

Excuse my grammar, I am a bit p1ssed and emotional right now!

Well durrrrrrrrrrr. And I'm sure everyone enjoyed beating Liverpool at home/getting away draws at Chelsea and Man Utd more than seeing us get beaten at home to Barnsley earlier this season.

And as far all this billionaire nonsense, lets just see what happens over the next few weeks before we start camping outside the Madejski waiting for Messi to show up.

look at the ticket prices of clubs that are under foreign ownership in this division, they will be higher than ours.

A short term buzz is approaching for those deluded enough to think that Readings' rightful place is in the Premier League......the fact remains that we have 13,000 genuine supporters, 7,000 Jonny come lately's who show up in the good times and 20,000 Daily Mail readers who turn up to Play Off finals!
