2 world wars, 1 world cup To be fair he would definitely sort out the likes of Guthrie.

I have a feeling PDC and Guthrie would get on quite well

RDM would be a real coup and with this squad we'd best adopt that 9-0-1 formation he used to win the CL.

Hoop Blah When we had the discussion about who might replace him before Christmas I thought Poyet would be an excellent and realistic choice.

I can't see him being interested now that we're as good as down though. He has a good thing at Brighton and his next move will be upwards. At the moment it would be an odd choice, career-wise, for him to jump ship to a side that next year is going to behind his in terms of chances for promotion and which would basically be putting him 2 or 3 seasons behind their development.

Parky coming back would be interesting too, but I'm not sure he's proven enough to earn another chance at this level yet.

The other semi-obvious name that I haven't seen mentioned so far is Dolan, at least in a caretaker capacity.

Madejski always promoted from within, not always a wise choice, I think AZ might be different

Sorry is there an example I'm missing? I can think of McGhee. Parj and Brian. All resounding successes. Hs there been a bad egg? (genuine question)

jellytot According to Fordham DiMateo is chewing over a 1.5 year deal... I think he is a much better
candidate than DiCanio. At least DiMateo has managed in the PL and won the champions league! Admittedly his squad was pretty good! Just feel DiCanio's managerial cv is not there. We need a big name who can attract players of a better class and get us playing football.

The new Reading way is about to begin.

LOL at Readings board offering 1.5 years.

The bloke has just won the champions league + FA cup, prior to that he got WBA automatic promotion.

Then we rock up offering a 1.5 year contract to rebuild an ageing team in the Chump.

Only at reading,
you could not make it up

Rodgers could possibly, to some extent, be called a promotion from within, he was at Reading from the age of 17-20 as a player and then 20-31 as a coach, becoming manager at 36.

His tenure as Reading manager was generally considered unsuccessful.

Skybet have stopped taking bets for Glen Hoddle. You heard it here first.

Apparently it's because of what we got up to in our past lives.

You know what? I think if the club is going to release a statement it probably won't be at half past midnight, 7 hours after sacking the previous boss.

I'd get some kip if I were you. Just off to land of nod myself. (disappointed by lack of "sleeping smilie". We need one of those).

Not sure I understand the love for di matteo

Yes he won a couple of things but ended up being sh*t at Chelsea and more importantly sh*t at WBA in the prem.

CURBISHLY PLEASE!!!!

He still has it, will be refreshed and hungry.

Curbs hasn't been a Premiership manager for 5 years now.......the game has moved on, has he with it?

I would rather Di Matteo, at least he knows it and what is needed to be in it. Having Curbishley will be no better than keeping McD

Preferably not Di Canio - he just doesn't really seem to fit the mold. I can't see the players taking to a complete change in management style very well at all. It could be an interesting ride, though.

Adkins - I think it's realistic fit and players would take well to him, although I have said something about the bloke irks me, he always seems smug. Whether that would bother me if he was our manager, I don't know.

Di Matteo - I don't know if he would want to come here seeing as Chelsea will have a vacancy in the summer and there are rumours of them going back. But I think he would be a good choice. Can't hurt to have a Champions League winner managing the team.
