Scutterbucketz Indeed. Weren't the Thais the ones providing financial security rather than selling our most expensive assets?

I think this is more one of those situations where we could choose to sell him now or he'd be off for free in summer.

Big sell on clause, but not so much up front as he was worth a year ago, play well Alex, then move to Liverpoll for £20mill in a season or two,

Good move for him, a quality, young 'keeper who will feature in the full England squads in the near future. We are fortunate at the Mad Stad with the quality of 'keepers that we have, not only in Feds and Anderson but in the youth set up as well. Certainly Feds deserves his chance again after spending lots of seasons here playing second fiddle, his loyalty deserves a run as number 1, as for McCarthy good luck to you son, now go and build on what you have learnt here and get that England shirt.

£3m for a player in the last year of his contract? Seems pretty good to me. Well done NH! Again!

Not surprising but still makes me :( .

But it is the nature of the beast right now. All the most promising young talent, time and time again, gets scooped up by the teams above leaving us with some very good, but much slower developing, talent in our system. The thing that bothers me, and it appears some others here, is the "financial security" portion of the statement by the club. Did I miss something? Is the sale to the Thais off?

akranes "With Alex having entered the final year of his contract here in Berkshire, the initial deal is a good one for Reading Football Club and we also have significant financial protection moving forward."

This quote would indicate add ons if he should move on with his career . but doesn`t this undisclosed fee shit piss you off?
Well now we have sold 3 players and netted something like 10m . how much of this money will go out again before Monday night?
my guess is f*ck all

Slightly more as most people forget we also sold Daniel Carrico (Sevilla, £1.5m)

It's about £8m including add ons for ALF, Morro, McCarthy and Carriço together. Rising to about £11. 30% profit on McCarthy.

Or s the sale still on and £3m to our new owners represents "financial protection"? That would be even more alarming than the sale being off, or a big insult to our new supposedly wealthy Thai owners...

Yeah it is quite worrying. I'm just hoping Adkins is letting them leave so he can completely reconstruct his own team, however with each player leaving, each time he sounds slightly dissapointed. Fairly sure we won't sign anyone before the window shuts too.

It's widely considered that Le Fondre was used to pay a bill, Carrico's loan agreement reputedly had the option to buy in it, Morrison was too good an offer to turn down for an average defender and McCarthy was going free at the end of the season if we didn't cash in now. Other than maybe Morrison at a stretch, i don't see how our new owners (who indeed don't even own the club yet) could have really had any influence on this.

IMHO, this is just a badly phrased way of suggesting that we have numerous addons that ensure we aren't going to be missing out when QPR sell him on for 20 mill in a year or two.

There is a good chance we'll sign no one, but not if Adkins has his way. He described the team as "bare bones" right now in an interview at the OS on Friday...

So badly phrased it should have never been included. Once the sale had been announced the last thing I was worried about was the financial stability/security of the club. That poorly worded statement, just being included in the announcement of the McCarthy transfer, has our financial position on my radar of things to be concerned about...

Not bothered by him going, all the best hope he does well and earns a move in a year and we get a sell on fee

Looking forward to seeing Andersen taking Feds spot as No.1 as the season goes on

Best of luck to him, good keeper and did well for us but last year of contract meant this was always likely to happen. Look forward to seeing him in Premier League action - IF he plays (with Green "guaranteed" to be first choice when he renewed his contract), he'll be very busy...

"He's a star" LOL. If he's lucky then he will be an average to fairly decent PL keeper who lacks the all round game to progress past that point. Maybe an England call up or two, without playing a full 90 minutes, but then England are so poor anyone could get picked for them.

Or, most likely, he'll get stuck behind a vastly experienced PL keeper before spending the next 10 years sitting on various benches, until he signs for Crawley or someone.
