Top Flight This is a bit like when Coppell let Forster and Williams both leave. Everyone was a bit sceptical at the time. But he replaced them with Doyle, Long and Sonko and the rest is history.

Letting go of a few of the fans favourites and long-serving players is probably exactly what we need at the present time to break out of our current rut, change the whole philosophy at the club and come out stronger.

Without money, nobody thought that Coppell could replace Williams and Forsters quality at the time. But hell he did it. (I sound like Ed Milliband there).

I reckon Clarke will unearth the next Doyle, Long and Sonko without spending much. Come on Clarke, show us what a great manager you're gonna be for us. Lack of funds. That is no excuse.

The difference is that Coppell already had a good track record as a manager and also for identifying good players . IMO Clarke doesn't.

Coppell also had McDermott as Scout and Dolan's relation at Cork. Lots of Coppell's good buys were players who'd played for him at a lower level that he thought could step up too. Not really going to apply in Clarke's case.

Best of luck to him. Can't blame the guy for wanting to further his career and try his luck with another club. Although he won't be any better off at Derby in the long run.

Clarke to look at someone like Mancienne as a replacement? Who knows.

All I hope is that we don't go with what we've got.

Clarke and Keen do have one or two fairly decent contacts in the game.....

But not a great track record with signings. Particularly those that aren't loaned from Chelsea.

What worries me is that they've not offered anything to Mackie yet. Fans favourite & you'd think that could be a deal that gets wrapped up quickly - I think Mackie would very much like to stay with us.

Unless it's a whoosh or I am missing something.... Mackie is not our player?!?!?!

Yes I realise that but Forest are fcuked because of FFP & face a transfer embargo....so if the club & player want a deal to happen my guess is that it could be relatively straightforward.

I think Clarke & the fans would like Mackie here so I guess time will tell.

sandman "He was rubbish anyway" - the HNA? verdict on every player to ever leave the club no matter how much success said player had at RFC.

Cant blame him more money, bigger club, chance of promotion. An amitious club as opposed to one in rapid decline. I would have done the same. He deserves our respect when he returns next season.

Yeah, but that's Gylfi, he's more than a mere football player.

What's all this "rapid decline" bollocks?

It's a brief but necessary period of stabilisation during which the club is preparing for the next big push fuelled by a hugely talented bunch of youngsters who will feed the club's playing and financial resources for many years to come....

...is how I'd put it. 8)

The reason they're oxf*rd is largely due to the wages they pay the likes of Mackie. We cannot compete at this moment in time with that so we're going to have to convince mackie that moving to us is worth an inevitable cut in salary. FWIW Mackie seems the type to value playing over maximising his income but it may depend on how far he's willing to sacrifice.

Heard that before. Thats PR speak for we are skint, lets just hope we can stay up, and lets pretend we have 11 players from the Academy that are suddenly going to be good enough to get us promotion!

PR speak? I'll give you PR speak...

Look at the recurring levels of doom and gloom on here over the last 15 years during the best period in the club's history. Opportunities may have been missed but in reality we've never had it so good. The same grey clouds we've seen before seem to hover over Hobnob now, but the sun will burst through those clouds soon....

It's always been about building blocks and, after the stadium, the Academy was the most important one in SJM's mind.

The fruits are coming through now - give it a little more time and things will come together. They always do.

(That is of course if the Thai criminal overloads haven't fcuked us over in the meantime.... )

Yes, but a very good one.

I don't blame Pearce for moving on. He's given us good service and probably needs the new challenge as well as just chasing the money. Much the same with Federici, for us it just comes down to how well, or not, we replace them.

To be fair, he did have his children to feed and clothe
