brendywendy so we gave doyle a new contract, after which he played only a litte, and scored only a little
and as a result we have robbed ourselves of whatever money we would have gained through the current bidding war over doyle, as all teh clubs will just bid 6.5 to trigger the release, and all the bidding war does is increase doylers signing on fee/wages?

that gamble didnt really pay off did it!

Yes- because what if the only offer we had was £4.5 million and he despertaley wanted to accept it?

This at least guarantees us the sum that we thought was right for him - £6.5M. Perhaps it should have been pitched higher, but it does get us what we want.

Darren Caskey's Dietician I'd imagine it is pretty irrelevant seeing as his buy out clause is said to be £6.5m - what club would pay more than that?

Other than Leeds under Risdale, I can't think of any. Pretty pointless thread.

I would have thought it wouldn't be too complicated to write the clause so that the club have the right to reject a 6.5m offer if there's a higher offer on the table.

[edit] Never mind. It wouldn't work.

What if it's a player with a £5m release clause who desperately wants to go and we won't stand in their way, but no one wants to meet the £5m either?

We listen to lower offers - we always have that right. The release clause just says that over a certain price we can't reject an offer.

Or certain managers who have a reputation for either taking a cut of transfer fees or for a family member / friend to do so. Mentioning no names.

More importantly, if/when Doyle goes who are we going to get to replace him? No-one has mentioned this, We`ll have N Hunt, Long and Mooney left, also Simon Church will have a big part to play this season hopefully, so who is going to come in? Tommy Smith is linked, Anybody else got any realistic ideas?

I thought Tommy Smith was a winger ... anyway, I know I'm going to get stick for suggesting this but I would like to see the return of Kitson ... offer Stoke 2 mill ... take it or leave it ... but any signing depends on whether money is made available ... and I think we can forget about names previously mentioned ... Surman, etc ... as I think things will be done on the cheap ... again ! :x

Kitson's an excellent player, but I just think his legs have gone a little in the last couple of years and he's now a bit too slow.

If Doyle goes then spend £2 - £3m and bring back a young lad who we never should have let go ,and he has proved that himself , Simon Cox . Steve Coppells major bollock drop from his magnificent reign here.

If he really did that then I'd say sign him up immediately - shows he's got a great sense of humour. I'd have laughed ....

whats the problem with that?

Hunt needs bringing down a peg or two and players take the piss out of each other all the time, its the dressing room way of dealing with things

Not sure i would go back for Kitson though
