and as a result we have robbed ourselves of whatever money we would have gained through the current bidding war over doyle, as all teh clubs will just bid 6.5 to trigger the release, and all the bidding war does is increase doylers signing on fee/wages?

This at least guarantees us the sum that we thought was right for him - £6.5M. Perhaps it should have been pitched higher, but it does get us what we want.

I would have thought it wouldn't be too complicated to write the clause so that the club have the right to reject a 6.5m offer if there's a higher offer on the table.

We listen to lower offers - we always have that right. The release clause just says that over a certain price we can't reject an offer.

No-one has mentioned this, We`ll have N Hunt, Long and Mooney left, also Simon Church will have a big part to play this season hopefully, so who is going to come in? I thought Tommy Smith was a winger ... anyway, I know I'm going to get stick for suggesting this but I would like to see the return of Kitson ... offer Stoke 2 mill ... take it or leave it ... but any signing depends on whether money is made available ... and I think we can forget about names previously mentioned ...
