Ian Royal i don't necessarily disagree with the sentiment. But please name 5 outfield players from the last 15 years that were still playing at Championship level or better at the age of 40. Or i call bullcrap.

Wouldn't have a clue, or any interest in finding out. Plenty of players play into their mid to late 30's, which is what he is.

Yeah, i agree you just made it up.

Sometimes signings that looks odd on to work just dont, and sometimes signings that seem odd or ridiculous seem to work out to the surprise of everyone.

Fingers crossed it is the latter. But lol, just lol, at the idea he is 32 years old.

Victor Meldrew On Saturday we were saying "Where's Jamie when you need him"?
After all he is still banging the goals in at the age of 39 and the main criticism was his work rate and why Pardew picked Forster ahead of him.
Yakubu historically has a work rate that Imho is less than Cureton's, his heading ability isn't up to much, his hold-up play is not very good and he has only ever played with better class players than we currently have who provided all those chances.
Also it seems as though he hasn't played since May and at age 37 or whatever he is that is not good news.

To compare him with Roberts is ridiculous-Roberts had always been an excellent hold-up player and a team man-Yakubu is/was a finisher and nothing more.
Not an exciting signing in a very dull season and a stop-gap that I hope is better than anybody called Ferdinand or Keown or for that matter Goater , all of whom had done well in the past (like Yakubu) but all well past their sell-by date which is why they cost nothing.

What surprises me and some of the earlier posters is that there appears to have been money available for Vibe or Murray in excess of £1 million but we end up spending virtually nothing-if he does well then hats off to Nicky but please fellow fans do not expect too much from this old boy.

So basically you don't like him because he used to play for Everton.

:?: Weird.

How old is Bernard Hopkins?

...and we're writing off a 32 year old incase he's too frail to glance a header or toe poke a croos into the net :?:

You can be a bit of a teaser at times....

I said players can keep going until they are 40, which is true. Not made up.

You then decided to apply some made up criteria, which I have no interest in googling, although you could.

If you did I think you'd be surprised at the players who have played at the top level at or around the age of 40.

Sheringham, Giggs and Stachan all played in the Prem aged 40+, and that's reported to be the best league in the world.....

Proving that you're only as old as the man that you feel! :?

Giggs played at 40. I am therefore dismissing everything else in your post as wildly inaccurate

Lampard is 36, his date of birth is 20 June 1978 so clearly he hasn't played at age 40 and the age 37 to the left of his name is incorrect.

Is snowball completely cocking up again? He really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Unless that's a deliberate piss take seeing as it has Yakubu for us at 43, in which case it's pretty good form from him.

Kevin Phillips seems a good example of a striker playing until he was 40. Similar type of player to Yakubu, natural goal scorer, doesn't contribute much outside the box.

Cool as you like. The calmest man in the house.Eidur Gudjohnsen smashed a penalty into the top corner against Leeds a few weeks back, but this time he just waits for Simon Mignolet to dive and passes it in, Yakubu style.

Yakoubu style lololol

I hate when people describe those sorts of penalties as good. They're shit, as we saw with HRK. You're relying on the 'keeper gambling and choosing wrong. Just oxf*rd learn to hit it in a 2 foot square zone at a top corner, starting six inches in from the wood work. It's not a lot to ask a professional athlete to learn to do that consistently from 18 pissing yards and it'd be all but unsaveable.

Who else was there when the Yak tapped home after Hahnemann parried Rochemback's free kick to make it 2-0 Boro? This prompted the guy next to me to say "its guna be a long hard season", but before half time it was 2-2 and by full time Reading emerged as 3-2 winners 8)
Just experienced some nostalgia watching this, especially after Kitson knocked in the first one - the way he picked up the ball and held it up as if to say "We're still all in this together and here is our first Premier League goal", I'd forgotten that, but I remember thinking it at the time too.
