Ascotexgunner I could never leave early even if the team are getting mullered. Primarily because I might miss something, whether its a red card, 22 man brawl, fantastic goal, late fightback. Never understood why people do but then again, its their right I spose.

Sat with the Wigan fans today not many of the them i can understand why we left early as we were shit from 01 to 90

That's rubbish though isn't it, we had periods on top.

Yes, yes we did. Very clearly for large parts of the first 40. Kebe, Pog and Akpan all had very good chances.

I find it funny that the first few pages of the match thread were quite positive before they scored, but after the game people are slating our entire performance.

Genuine question; does leaving early make it feel any better?

Seems like a lot of people left early as the performance (and weather) didn't warrant any more of their time and effort. This being the case did leaving early make your afternoon any better? Did you just forget about the football and switch off? Does not hearing the final whistle mean in your head you don't have to come to terms with the result? Does the positive of catching an early train brighten up your day?

The gent that made it back in time for rugby/pizza obviously had a better afternoon than I did staying til the final whistle, but I'm just interested to find out if you really achieve any uptick in satisfaction leaving early or if it's a 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' type of thing.

Vic_Flange 1 Staying to the end makes a person a better supporter.

Reply : Better supporter? Bollocks.

 I clearly have a different understanding of what supporting your team means.

Leaving a couple of minutes before the end definitely stopped me sinking any deeper into depression and gave us all a chance to get warm earlier than we otherwise would have been. What's more, nothing worse than being stuck in traffic and taking ages to get home after an awful display like that.

As you are so good on understanding, perhaps you could visit the dressing room and explain to our players what playing your hearts out for the supporters means!

TBF, there were some supporters who, regardless of whether they ultimately left early or not, continued to back the team and chant/shout encouragement - seemed to make f*ck all difference to what the players did though! Mad and expensive thing to do but at least Pog demonstrated that he had become incredibly frustrated by the dire performance!

Can we rename this thread "did you stay to the end?"

Because if you did then you really need to find something better to do.

As I have to watch all games on TV, i switch the channel to the QPR v Man Utd game after 65 mins. Kept flicking back in hope of a miracle however it was too painful to watch the team I have supported for over 25 years getting mauled like that.

I think he's saying that anyone who left early was a tosser. There were 22,000 in the ground at 80 mins and only 9,000 left at the final whistle. I think he should be applauded for counting them tbf.

By my reckoning it was far fewer than 9000 at the end - I made it about 4-5000 maximum.

All the other buggers were queuing to get out of the car park!

Not to mention a fundamental problem with written English.

Didn`t leave early, but that last 30 minutes was terrible with us having no chance of getting back in the game, i spent it constantly glancing at the big clock and wondering how the feck time can pass so slowly..i just wanted to go home.
