Divvy Stuart Taylor
Alex Pearce
Ian Harte
Noel Hunt
Simon Church
Jason Roberts
Nicky Shorey (we have an option of another year)

I'd keep Shorey as a backup but we need a new LB to start. The rest are replaceable.

I'd be happy to see:

SOLD

Federici
Andersen
Karacan
Pogrebnyak (a given)

That should see at least £6m come in.

OUT OF CONTRACT

Hunt
Roberts
Church
Harte
Shorey - Keep one more season
Pearce
Taylor

RELEASED

I think you will find we need at least 8 or 9 players

You think more or less then? Pog should fetch at the very least £2.5m. He has another 4 years on his contract.
Federici should go for no less than £1.5m.
Karacan maybe the same sort of fee..

Would we have said Long could go for £6m, or Doyle and Kitson for £5m plus? The Premier League over-inflates value, and Hammond then earns his wages.

Pog 2 at the most, Feds don't think you would get more then 1 there are a lot of good young keepers around, Gem may be 0.5 and that's if your lucky Ham and eggs earned his coin when the market had a bit of energy but at the moment it is very static, did you know that as every season ends there has been an increase in the number of out of contract players hence clubs take a chance on them rather then wasting millions like they used to, that's why Reading buy the likes of Akpan , Blackman Etc

To much change too quickly is not good. A few key improvements here and there is better than getting rid of 8 players and bringing in 8. Most of our squad are definitely good enough for the Championship. And it won't take much to get them playing in a different way and doing it well, with the right key 3 or 4 coming in.

Reading's Championship teams in the last few years relied far too heavily on old players e.g. Griffin, Roberts, Harte, Gorkss, Khizanishvili.
Whilst this has gained us short term success, it was ultimately pointless. Next season I want to see a young team that's current ability is good but where potential ability is a lot higher.

For this reason I would pretty much get rid of everyone over 27 at the end of the season: Feds, Legs, McAnuff, Hunt, Shorey, Kebe, Roberts, Taylor, Kelly, Harte, Pog, Gorkss and Tabb.

If we want to get back to the Prem then get some players with Prem potential and not short term past it freebies and loans.
Younger players may cost more in transfer fees but they'll be cheaper in wages and will rise in value. Gunter may have been a bit of a rip off at £2.5M but hopefully he will improve in future in ability as well as value. The likes of Roberts will only decrease in ability and value.

Shorey will probably be the best left back in the championship if he stays.

Add Karacan to my list to get rid of, plays like a headless chicken, no brain.

Agree with this.

Total overhauls very rarely bring success. See QPR, Leicester and Blackburn for example.

We need at least one quality striker with pace and strength, a pacy winger, a solid centre-back, and possibly a cultured central midfielder. If Shorey doesn't stay, clearly he'll need replacing, but the above should cover just about any other departures.

If Adkins does intend to bring in a passing style of football, we may well see the likes of Karacan and Leigertwood phased out. Whilst they have been great servants to the club, this would not be a bad thing.

Gunter, Morrison, Shorey, Kelly and Mariappa will all do well at that level and should all stay.

Hopefully Guthrie will stick around. With Akpan and A N Other that should provide options for a sturdy central pairing.

Expect Hunt and Pog will leave, so we'll need to add to Blackman and Le Fondre with at least one and probably two very good centre-forwards. Obviously Billy Sharp would be one good option, and a similar style of striker to accompany him would be great.

Adkins doesn't fancy Shorey, that is very clear. It must be his mobility, as his distribution is first class.

Scrap Anderson, Gunter, Leigertwood (sadly) and Mills. Keep Pogrebnyak and Guthrie. Bring in a new LB, CB who can pass, CM, ST and perhaps another CM

OUTS
Federici
Cummings (If he doesn't want to stay)
Harte
Pearce
Tabb (Has said he's probably leaving)
One of Karacan/Leigertwood
One of Kebe/McAnuff
Church
Pog
One of Hunt/Roberts

That should pretty much do it. Looking at the first 4 names, they won us the Championship (+ Gorkss who I expect will stay if Wolves go down)

KEEP
McCarthy
Gunter
Shorey
One of Ledge/Karacan
One of Kebe/McAnuff
One of Hunt/Roberts
Guthrie
