Hendo Would be typical Reading to go and get something there tonight after some shambolic performances. Not that I think we will, I just won't be that surprised should we end up with a scrappy 1-0 win.

Of course the BBC reckon that Bournemouth dominated from the off, and we were second best for much of the proceedings

Derby on the other hand…(who would be 16th without the points deduction) dominated their opening period and were only denied points by defensive blocks and good goalkeeping before being hit by a third as they pushed for an equaliser

Nauseous stuff

People complaining on twitter, or anywhere, that we're celebrating a draw too much can get fcuked, imo.

We're down the bottom of the league and have just got a point against a team who should really be walking this league, while playing well, not with a fluke of a result, when everyone expected us to lose 3 or 4 nil.

What more do you fcuking want? Dickheads.

It is the same people who are acting surprised Danny Drinkwater was less than enthusiastic about clapping our support. We have been hurling abuse at him because he has been crap for about two months now, not sure we have any right to expect warm thanks from him.

Yeah, that's also odd. If I had thousands of people calling me a pcunt for the last couple of months, I would also be less than enthusiastic, especially when (by reliable accounts) he actually had a decent enough game last night.

Going through a dark time at the moment so yeah my posts regarding the team are more negative than usual.

And therefore totally understandable. Let’s hope that both see a bit of a change for the better as soon as possible.

FWIW your posts, even though not positive of late, still show to be from a likeable person.

Good luck finding any examples of me saying we should change a manager after 5 games, or pissing and wailing about game over and awful manager when 1-0 down after half a game against one of the top sides.

You said you would refuse to watch Reading ever again when Bowen was appointed.

I think people need to put it into perspective what this result actually means, not what everyone else has done around us.

It's a point we were not expected to get, it's a positive, regardless of what Barnsley do. There have been plenty of gameweeks where we've picked up points on Barnsley, it just so happens that the last couple are games where they've picked up on us, but I do not doubt that we will have other gameweeks where we pick up points on them.

Nobody will pull away. Barnsley have improved, but they aren't going to pull well away from the bottom 3, neither are we. It will come down to the last game. We've got the more favourable 4/5 fixtures now in the grand scheme of things with 3 of our next 4 being at home (only away game vs Barnsley which is must not lose) whereas 3 of their next 4 are away. They've got some favourable teams in the last 4/5 games. It will be a close run thing, but let's take the positive from last night that, no matter where we finish at the end of the season, last night's result means we've collected 1 more point than we would have expected from this game. Whether that will be enough or not remains to be seen.

Something that hit me is that the goal we scored is a goal we have typically conceded especially under Pauno, all men back in the box, lands to a man on the edge of the area who gets a free hit and scores.

Excellent in the second half and I don't think we were actually too bad in the first bar some statuesque defending for their goal.

Yes Barnsley won, but that point is more important in my view. With these 3 games in 7 days coming before the break, the key for me was somehow getting 4 points from them - we've got 1 from the first 2, now we need to beat a Blackburn team who are decent but away from home haven't scored this year.

This is pretty much the best set up for the weekend we could have hoped for and with 3 winnable home games ahead of us now, we need to take that second half performance into this run.

Barnsley are at Sheffield United on Saturday, so have taken 20/24 recently at home and they play at 12.30 (as do Derby). So we could well go into our game at 3pm knowing that a win will get us back to the 5 point gap but now with only 8 games to go. Would take some immediate pressure off the Barnsley game if we do that.

One big positive from last night is I thought we looked a LOT fitter than recently. Looked pretty fresh at the end whilst Bournemouth looked shot

It’s certainly one area I thought ince would improve on so hopefully that’ll continue for the rest of the year

Good point. Shows the merit of staying in the game as long as possible without capitulating. Given our struggles, 4/6 away at the top two is a pleasant surprise

As an aside, Parker seems to get results but he really does ingrain an awful style of play - so slow and so predictable, couldn’t watch that dross every week

In this Covid era, fitness is MASSIVE.

Not sure how many players in the squad had Covid Mk1, Mk2, or Omicron, but do not think, just because a player is no longer coughing/has a temp, and is "back in training" he is back to NORMAL.

For athletes, Covid can hang around for ever.

Example One (on "any old virus")

10-15 years ago, when I ran fairly seriously, I got a random "cold" (NOT Flu), felt crap for a week to ten days, went back to training at club nights and the long Sunday run.

STEADY ("get the miles in the legs") running felt exactly the same body-wise but the moment I pushed it I was utter rubbish and had to stop.

I was only a "half-athlete" (with a day job) and I couldn't race for 9 months

Second Example.

I got Covid March 4th 2020, crisis 18th March

I thought I was over it and then went downhill three months or so later with "Long Covid".

I can now WALK up to 15 miles a day but I simple CANNOT run more than 100 metres. I still sleep badly, have extreme dreams, break out in "bruises" or spots, get leg spasms occasionally, muscle aches, headaches on an off. TWO YEARS after having Covid I could not play Park Football.

PS

Prior to Covid, my "Fitness Age" was 10-12 years UNDER my chronological age. After 15 months it was 6 years OVER, a change of about 17 years. My fitness age is decent again, but this is clearly false as I still find running nigh-on-possible.

==============================

When I watch games I wonder if players are doing more "crafty coasting" to try and conserve energy. I'm not expert enough to know if they are but I'd bet that their stats would indicate they are nothing like as energetic.

Very pleased with a point.
The big mystery down here is Parker's change of tack in the team's approach in recent weeks.

This is a Bournemouth side that is second behind Fulham in goals scored and yet has started to play Stamball.

After 10 minutes last night it felt Like "here we go again" with them scoring a simple but well worked goal.
They didn't really press on and it was a typical drab Championship game with nothing much happening and both sides giving the ball away.
We say it most seasons but the gap between Championship and Premier League is probably greater than it has ever been and whoever goes up will most likely come straight back down.

Anyway , back to the game and the second half felt as though Bournemouth were happy with a 1-0 and let us have the ball that we passed and passed and passed generally around the half way line.
We felt as though we might get something out of the game if Meite came on with presumably Rhino or Laurent going off, both of whom look a shadow of the player they were last season.
As the players tired it then became fine for Drinkwater who finished the game well.

Why is it that managers think Meite can play down the middle?
Is it because he is big and strong?

So, all's well that ended well with Ince (who works hard even if he flatters so often to deceive ) with a cracking finish that sent our fans into raptures.

My MOM was Yiadom-limited ability but he is so determined and expected to do so much in this team.
Keeper did ok.
Fans were in good form
Swift much needed for that extra bit of class and creativity.

Apparently the game was very similar to last week when Peterboro got a deserved 1-1 and the locals don't get how they are so poor against the lesser sides.

Ironic I thought that we played in Ukraine's colours against a Russian-owned side and there was a revolving advert (as well as home chanting) saying "Red Army".
Let's hope for a draw over there in Ukraine.

Yeah fans sounded great on the TV.

2nd half Drinkwater played like he should have been playing in the last 2 months. Controlled, playing the right passes.
