Arch
Rawlie19 At least the window is open and now He knows where we have to strengthen. If we'd won, or even got a draw, people would be thinking that everything was alright and no need to buy anybody.
Here's the problem. We need at least one central defender and one central midfielder who are considerably better than we've got. Now, who?

Isn't Robbie Savage available?

Oh no, he opted for a club as good as down!

Arch
Rawlie19 There are LOADS of them... Paying the money and convincing them to join us is another matter.
Who?

Just look at all of the transfers (really big names like Anelka excepted of course) that have already taken place and tell us that none of them would have added strength to our current squad!

I still dont understand why we dont have a right midfielder in the squad?

Waiting for a 32 year old to comeback after an achilles injury isnt very clever imo.

It's still about 'only' 5 more wins to stay up. I'd say 37 should be enough this season with the bottom being so crap.

As is ignoring a young and very talented winger that will leave the club soon if he doesn't get games, and let's face it, if he can't get in the side with Little, Oster injured and the terrible Bobby Convey playing because we have feck all left, what exactly is going on?!

Here's one for the over reaction thread.

Hunt - expressed desire to leave for Sunderland and play under hero Keane.
Doyle - Backs Sidwell for leaving and would openly do the same if the chance arises.
Lita - "If a bid comes in I want to go"
Shorey - Not anything like the player he was last season and wants out.

Not forgetting the players that need replacing:

Little
Oster
De La Cruz
Murty - Does he have another season in him?
Convey?

We can't afford to replace that little lot with players of same quality if not better, let alone those that want out given the chance.

If not this season (and I feel it will be) but next season relegation for certain.

It's all doom and gloom!!

cmonurz
Royal Rother Maybe Arch. I dunno, I just find it ludicrous at this stage of the club's development (and of the season) that fans who are not actually highly successful football managers, or incredibly shrewd businessmen, should be questioning the ability / competence / approach (whatever) of both the manager to run the football team, and the Chairman to run the business, of Reading Football Club.

Express opinions by all means, but some of it I just find feeble-minded and distasteful.

So Coppell knows best on team selection, team tactics etc etc. What is there left to have a valid opinion on, out of interest?

All opinions are valid cmonurz, it's the disrespect that goes with much of it that I find distasteful.

Coppell's lost his magic hat!

We're losing players either physically through injury and/or in mind. Morale is clearly dropping and he doesn't seem able to do anything to change the situation.

He doesn't like unhappy players in the camp unsettling the others yet he clearly has some but can't really let them go because he started the season with a squad that was way too small/thin.

Exactly and why? He may back the board out in the open but no way has he been given the funds to add the players he needs and/or wants.

We have a terrific manager in charge here, it's just a shame we don't have a board to match.

I still have a faint suspicion that you might be right but that we will only learn that post SC.

Certainly past incumbents have suggested that there were constraints placed on them that the fans would have been unaware of and which didn't sit that well with the public statements being made.

The board, doesn't nessasrily mean Madejski and "out" is a serious over reaction, save that for the Serious Over Reaction Thread.

But after last season's 8th place finish, why didn't we build on it, and with £60m coming in as well?!

Instead we chose to play it tight again and it hasn't worked.

Now we hear there is money to spend again, but is there really? And I don't mean £3m for 3-4 players.

We need a good 3-4 more players and that's without any 'first teamers' leaving unexpectedly.

Fact: We are an average Premiership club still thinking like a Championship club.

And on one hand I'm pleased we're so carefull, but at the same time we must start to progress both on and off the pitch.
At the moment we're progressing finachially off it, but we're suffering on the pitch because we wont release the funds to improve on it. certainly not anywhere near where we need to any way.

I love Coppell for what he's done here. He's worked miricles!

But he has taken us as far as he possible can. Unless we back him financhially and take the club forward, what can he do?

If I was Coppell I'd be frustrated and considering my future, or as is possibly the case by mentioning he would like a break from football at the end of his contract.

You certainly couldn't blame him if he wanted that break this summer rather than next.

Like who? Tamir Cohen? Wilson Palacios? Are these guys better than Marek Matejovsky?

Today was bad....REALLY bad.

First time i've seen us away this season and if that's the way we've played it's no surprise we have 0 wins.
