cmonurz I'm not overly disappointed at this signing - but I just look at Derby and see them spending £1.75m on Hulse and can't help feeling a little jealous.

Which bit are you jealous about? The fact they spent £1.75m or that they signed Rob Hulse?

We sign a striker for under £1m who scored 17 goals last season in the SPL, Derby sign a striker for £1.75 who scored ZERO goals last season in 24 appearances and you are jealous of them?

As you might be able to tell I don't share your jealousy.

Maybe the disspointment was not about the player in questions, but the money another relegated team are prepared to spend on players. I very much doubt our total spend on new players will exceed the amount Derby have shelled out for one player, let alone spend a similar figure on one player.

Hulse is a proven player in the English league WR, 1 bad season off the back of an injury doesn't change that, same as Lita and Doyle.

That proper nasty injury was the reason Sheff Utd went down from the Prem. They lost their only source of goals and sunk like a stone

the height issue up front does worry me a bit though,i know long and lita for their size are not bad in the air, doyle is average and hunt jnr is supposed to be ok but they are not 'target men'. It does remain slightly confusing as to where hunt jnr can play as well. I really think if our forwards are as it stands then we will be tinkering with the way we play this season.

But Derby's squad was in major need of a radical overhaul following the 11pt season, our's needs tweaking more than anything IMHO.

If Derby romp the league and we finish midtable than fair enough, but at the moment, there's little that they've signed that I feel is better than what we currently have.

I wasn't particularly happy with the signing at first, but having slept on it I think he could be good. He's going to come in full of enthusiasm and with something to prove, hopefully it'll give our current the squad the kick up the arse they need.

As stated on the official site the Hunt brothers will have the initials on there shirts.

It might only be me but I find it quite funny that we will have a Shunt playing for us next year, and its lucky that Stephens brother wasn't called Colin or Callum!!!!! Imagine having a CHunt playing!!!!!!!!

Starfish Well, this should be enough to get him an the international cap anyway if the past is anything to go by.

Team board? WTF?

NoeLOL Hunt.

Indeed, life is full of surprises.
I think IreLOLand was more my angle though.

Stranded Could be a very good signing, decent record in Scotland. Strong and apparently got a great leap on him. Will give the lad a chance

Good to see the usual suspects putting a negative spin on things. I'm sure if we signed Kaka some would find a way to make it a bad thing.

too old, wouldnt fit our style of play, and has a name that sounds like poo.

Yet I get the feeling he'd be able to beat our whole team.
No, kidding. I'm not that negative.

It's this continued belief that our squad 'only needs tweaking' that I can't get my head around.

Compare our 106 point side to what we have now.

No Sidwell or Kitson, Marek and Bikey in. And that's it in terms of our 'strongest line-up' (perhaps you could swap Rosenior for Murts, but the latter remains first choice I think), in over two years. Arguably, the side is worse off than when we were last here, which to my mind doesn't represent adequate investment. Against that, the division is arguably stronger. At least, this early in pre-season, there could be 10 or so clubs who might win it.

It also gives players that failed us last season another chance, after they received two last season. If they fail again, then what? 'If we can't bring anyone in I have confidence in the players at my disposal'?

I am jealous of Derby fans because they have been relegated, like us, and are seeing their club invest in proven, quality players, using money that they gained from their time in the Premier League. Like us, they are probably paying higher ticket prices than when they were last in the Championship, but for this they have seen significant investment in the side.

WR has always, and will always, tear apart the transfers of other clubs, and, like brendy, strongly defend the actions of RFC (although I note the Coppell thread the other day). But a £1.75m striker and a Polish international midfielder are, imho, far beyond what Hammond and co even set out to find this summer, and it's that that concerns me.

So, you're saying we might not play good ol' relegation-causing hoof ball? We might play short passes?
I'm sure Marek would be happy. :D

A very "Reading" signing, tbh. Nowt wrong with that, but I feel this is a prelude to one of Lita/Doyle leaving in this window.

Alan Partridge Hulse is a proven player in the English league WR, 1 bad season off the back of an injury doesn't change that,

The Blades fans were not unhappy to see him go as they think he just isn't the same player after his injury and his performances last season showed that. A bit like Sonko with us and many would not be unhappy to see him leave.

24 appearances is a lot to go without a goal in the Championship for a player proven in that division. You comparison with Lita and Doyle is not really all that relevant as they were playing for not playing well in the Premiership (and still scored goal(s)), and you are comparing them to a player who played in the Championship for a team that narrowly missed out on the playoffs.

Alan Partridge Welcome Noel, Be interesting if we settle on these 4 or try and bring in someone 6ft+ as well. If they don't then it does leave us a bit one dimensional.

Two dimensional, if you really think about it.

Fans views differ on everything. A lot of Dundee utd fans are delighted with the fee they've got for someone who has had 1 good season goalscoring wise in his career. There will be a good portion of Blades fans disappointed that Hulse has gone and they've spent more money on Darius Henderson.

Hulse maybe needed a fresh start where he's the main man again, at Sheffield Beattie is their number 1 and I can't imagine them working well as a partnership.
