katweslowski I agree with pepe that it's just too meek and mild. I don't think an on-field protest is right at the moment, but what that did was actually demonstrate our grit, the severity of the situation, it was a serious action - particularly for our fanbase who are not known for such things.

A half-empty ground, with a few thousand holding up red cards for 60 seconds just seems so ineffective. We're on our backside, facing relegation, extinction, a major crisis.

Red cards seems too small.

More fit the mood. Maybe accompanied by silence.

Sounds a bit like the Pompey game, way back, when every man and his dog was goading them with 'this is your funeral'. Funny ol' game.

katweslowski A half-empty ground, with a few thousand holding up red cards for 60 seconds just seems so ineffective.

The red cards looked pink due to having ineligible white writing on them, However back in the Elm Park days the crowd were issued with red and yellow cards as part of a Uri Geller publicity gimmick where he guesses what colour cards would be held up, Anyway the fans holding these up during the game to show the referee their view of fouls was effective.

Also, when the entire ground held up blue and white pieces of plastic a few years back that was very effective.

I think we would need the entire ground at a packed game to hold something red up at the same time for it to be effective... pick an away team who play in red and the away end might join in, intentionally or not if they just happen to be wearing red replica shirts.

The writing was on one side and it was blank on the other. Fans were holding up either side rather than all the same side, that and the poor attendance didn't really make the most of things but no doubt they'll try again v Crawley (who play in red usually) on the 19th.

I'm not sure protests add much value now. We did it all last season, raised the profile. After the sale fell through, we got all the media coverage and political involvement again at the drop of a hat.

Protests have served their purpose and were successful. Now it's all about media coverage and political involvement to keep the pressure on Dai.

Unsurprisingly small bits of paper/plastic didn't look good in a half empty stadium.

Fair enough for trying something, and it probably wasn't less effective than anything more visilually striking, because I don't see anything being effective.

Maybe an organised social media bombardment to get Reading FC trending globally at a time where the target audience will take note, if that's China then the time difference needs to be taken into account.

It just needs fans to all post tweets on Twitter/X at the same time every day with the same hashtag, It won't cost anything and all fans can get involved if they have the internet.

I mean, Twitter is banned in China, so probably not the best idea.

We should try that over here too.

Not if you have a VPN, or buy your Chinese SIM before arriving in China via the Nomad App

Even if it wasn't the Chinese would give as much of a shit about RFC as we gave about Renhe

Rather have Benny hill
Love to have Benny Hill run onto the pitch as a protest and then get chased around the pitch in speeded up slow motion by stewards, police officers, players, nurses, strippers, an old man waving a walking stick, the PA announcer, A bald man, Morris Dancers, a bird watcher, a group of marathon runners, some racially inappropriate stereotype characters, a vicar, a northerner with a flat cap and a whippet, a blind person with a guide dog (maybe going off in the wrong direction for comic effect) etc etc.

Not sure I fully understand how the other assets play a part in all this but couldn’t the protests target the car park or hotel rather than the games?
