elrey It's funny.

Firstly the board allowed him to speak to Fulham. So.... is it his fault the board said yes and he went and met with Fulham? They offered him MORE MONEY and he turned it down to stay.

Reading FC as a loyalty based club.

Adkins - fired for having his best players sold from under his feet and given no support in the transfer market whatsoever. He did BETTER than Clarke with a bunch of rubbish.

McDermott - fired for being TOO SUCCESSFUL. Oh, what the hell was that all about?

Rodgers - fired for not being given enough support to change a team from a bunch of hoofers to a team that played his style of football.

Yeah, we're all about loyalty us, and Clarke, what a bustard for not leaving the club when he could have got more money.

Disagree on Bodgers. He had a decent side, just utterly clueless how to use them. Agree on BMac who was stabbed in the back by the board but Adkins was woeful..best players sold or not. Clarke had us playing some really great stuff at the start of the season, not sure why it went so pearshaped injuries or not. I hope this is sorted quickly one way or another.

I wanted Steve Clarke as our manager. During the events of last week, I was of the opinion Oh shit. After watching that shite yesterday and a weekend of beer and deliberation, I am now thinking do one. Seriously, we were 2-0 up, at home, let them get one back and went on the back foot. Crap substitution decisions. Lost my confidence so how do our players feel.....

linkenholtroyal

linkenholtroyal In reality if anyone in the world was approached about another job 9 times out of 10 you would hear what they offer and weigh up your options. Anyone on this forum I bet would do that. And that's all Clarke has done unfortunately because he is a football manager it gets thrown in to the media. It's not a question of loyalty it's just life. He has chosen to stay at reading which I don't think is a bad thing, we are 7th in the table and not far off the play offs with a top championship squad. I think it is good for the stability of the club. At the moment we are in a Gd position so I'm going to back the manager and judge him come the end of the season. When he has had his chance. You will all look like idiots if we were promoted now.

disagree - I get asked about jobs on a regular basis - I don't go for them if I'm settled in my job

I bet you at least hear what there offering out of interest though, as far as we know that is all Clarke did

No I don't. I wouldn't consider moving for less money so assume they will offer more talking to them shows interest.

Interesting interpretation of events!

"A Fulham source told Football Insider: “Steve Clarke had agreed the contract with [Fulham owner] Shahid Khan. It was then passed over to Clarke’s agent Phil Smith who wanted to renegotiate more money.

“The structure of the basic salary was fine. It was additional elements that was the problem, the bonuses. The tweaks [to the contract] were so substantial that Fulham were not willing to consider them. Shahid Khan said, ‘no thanks, we won’t be doing that’.”

So it was Mr Greedy Agent who scuppered the deal not Mr Greedy Charlatan.

If that's true no wonder he looked so sheepish on Saturday.

His agent is probably trying to negotiate a loloyalty bonus for staying now. Moderofln fooballol.

The same agent that Malky Mackay/Iain Moody got much publicity for those text messages...

Malky Mackay “Go on, fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew that sees money slipping through his fingers”.

For the last time

SC gave comment (twice) that Fulham paid lots of money just to even speak to him

Is that how it works now?

Was SC given an interview deal that was money that he couldn't turn down?

Yeah I read that, but assumed it was just Charlatan mangling his words. Hope I'm not wrong! Blimey, if that was true, then of course he would have been mad not to have had a morning off to speak with them! - Almost like a lecture tour - except he was listening not talking! Weird world!

I interpreted that as Fulham paid RFC for permission to speak to our manager, not that they paid Clarke.

I find the whole business bizarre and increasingly think that we'll either be top of the league by Christmas or we'll have a new manager.

The snake was slipping up on his words.

According to Howe, Fulham had offered whatever the figure is to trigger the release clause in his contract. Wonder who told them what that was, given that Howe said that RFC hadn't told them?!

I guess that means that they had offered a lot of money for him to speak to them, rather than actually paid it.

LOL at the exchange on Twitter where someone notified the Co-Op that they had spotted a snake near one of their stores in Fulham. Co-Op were alarmed and asked the originator to direct message them with further details. The response they received was along the lines of 'sorry, false alarm, it was Steve Clarke, I have difficulty telling the difference between the two'

Howe said Fulham offered to pay whatever it took without asking what it was. In other words they didn't know or care and would have paid whatever we asked. I think it is wrong to suggest they had been tipped off by Clarke or his agent on that.

I'm not unhappy he's staying, I have faith he can help the team recreate that purple patch we had earlier this season and get us promotion. It's looking a lot less likely in recent weeks though.

I heard he said that he felt Fulham were better equiped than us for promotion, surely that can't have been just because we surrendered 3 points and let them win that match last month? Either way, in hindsight it was really stupid thing to say not only because they are lower than us in the table with a worse squad overall, but because of the message that sends to our players and fans.

He probably should never have even spoke to Fulham, but I guess at least he eventually made the right decision and stayed. In my view it would have been madness to just walk out on the squad he's created this summer after being backed by the club better than any of our previous managers. I would have been very surprised if he had just given that up to go to a club that isnt really any bigger or better than we are, which is why I was surprised he even considered it in the first place. He certainly has some 'making up for it' to do.

My choice to replace him would be Nigel Pearson, who I actually used to hate but warmed to him last season. I know he has abit of a chip on his shoulder but it actually makes him quite funny, and at least he takes no shit from the media or anyone, always backs his players and club over anything. I think he would get our players really going again if Clarke can't do the job.

Amusing that people hang on 3 words chucked in at the end of a sentence - "at this stage" - as firm evidence that he'll be off as soon as he can, yet completely dismiss what he clearly said (not once, but twice) that he was offered a lot of money to go and speak to Fulham, simply because it doesn't fit the profile of the man that these feeble-minded little knee-jerkers have decided to run with.

Where has the tempo gone? The pace, penetration and creativity?

We have become a stagnant squad of sewage, error prone and brittle, tediously churning out drab, mediocre performances seemingly to fit a 90 minute gap in the day.

This team needs a new lease of life, some optimism and confidence. Do you really see them getting that under Clarke?

As Dellor pointed out this morning Fulham leaked all this to the media in the hope of making it all the more likely he'd sign. There was certainly no upside in RFC or Clarke blabbing

It wouldn't surprise me at all if SC scuppered the deal as a result of the leak. He can't have been too impressed.

I certainly wouldn't put any faith in what Fulham are leaking since it collapsed
