paultheroyal Italians being shown around yesterday. Just saying.

http://www.football-italia.net/47167/becchetti-targets-reading-bid

English Championship side Reading could reportedly be the subject of a takeover bid from Italian entrepreneur Francesco Becchetti.

Becchetti and former Juventus and Roma director Gian Paolo Montali have been seen as in talks with Bologna over a proposed takeover of the Emilia-Romagna outfit.

However, on from majority shareholder and President Albano Guaraldi’s apparent reluctance to move beyond initial negotiations, the Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that the duo are now focused elsewhere.

Following Massimo Cellino’s recently blocked attempt to take over at Leeds United, the pink paper report that Becchetti, head of the Becchetti Enegry Group and Montali toured fellow Championship club Reading’s facilities at the end of last week, before taking in Saturday afternoon’s game against Huddersfield at the Medejski Stadium.

The Gazzetta have it that with initial contact now in place, negotiations between Becchetti, Montali and the club’s current owners Thames Sport Investment, led by Anton Zingarevich, will take place in the coming days.

Bit strange as weren't we supposed to be in the middle of an exclusivity period? Seems a lot of people have looked and there are no takers. Either we are going to have to lower the price or JM will have to buy back the shares at a basement price

Becchetti and Montali’s tour of England reportedly has also seen the latter meet with representatives from Birmingham City and Leyton Orient.

Former Siena and Catania Coach Marco Giampaolo, who has been linked with the Ascoli bench, was allegedly also with the duo.

If there's any truth in that Adkins might as well start clearing his desk now.

AZ really is a clueless pcunt!

Given Becchetti's reported propensity for dumping Italian waste in Albania maybe he wants to turn the stadium back into a rubbish tip.

Uke And as much as RB complains at least SJM is still around so we weren't completely fcuked

Wether by design or by default

As you intimate - is he still around because he wants to be? I think not!

And whose best interests is he going to be worried about at present?

Only where the club's best interests might happen to coincide with his own is the fact that he is still around likely to be a reassuring thing.

And if he'd gone completely, we'd be in the same state as (or worse than) AZ's beloved ice hockey team

Do you not agree there?

How so? SJM isn't putting any money in. And it's not his design that he didn't "go completely", Anton only bought 51%.

He's not investing wildly (did he ever?), but he's around and we have "proof of life" which is more than can be said for AZ...

And salaries are being paid.

Let's see what happens at the end of the season - we'll never know the full story as that'll all be covered by CDAs and Omerta

:| Reading are paying players though it's own books, not JM's pockets.

So the difference between him being here or not is one more empty seat. Yeah, phew.

You were inferring that we would be suffering the same fate of AZ's hockey team had it not been for JM choosing to stick around. I'm pointing out that he didn't and we wouldn't.

It might have been a different story if Anton hadn't disappeared and we'd sign anyone else...

I'm not prone to believe mental and disgruntled prospective owners of other clubs but....

We sacked McDermott with, IIRC, over 2 years left of his contract as a Premier League manager. It's quite conceivable that part of the terms of that sacking was that we paid up the majority of his contract as severance, and it's also believable that we pay that over the length of the contract and not as one big lump sum. So paying him £800k a year for a period of time after his sacking isn't that far fetched.

There are rumours that Madejski is covering/underwriting the wages in the short term.

Not sure I'd put much faith in the validity of those rumours but considering the news on Zingaravich's Ice Hockey teams current state of affairs it might not be that wild a suggestion.

Why would he need to do that?
