Because if our Wage bill is over 3 million a month then we might not have the income to cover it.

Extended-Phenotype Why would he need to do that?

Because our wage bill is presumably higher than ever and we've taken a big punt on spending the parachute payments upfront (they're paid at the end of the season I believe) and so outgoings are greater than incomings.

It seems daft that we can be in that position but without Madejski's control on the finances over the last two years anything is possible I guess.

EDIT: Basically what Zac said, although not sure on the numbers involved.

Uke Let's see what happens at the end of the season - we'll never know the full story as that'll all be covered by CDAs and Omerta

He's not investing wildly (did he ever?), but he's around and we have "proof of life" which is more than can be said for AZ...

And salaries are being paid.

:| Reading are paying players though it's own books, not JM's pockets.

So the difference between him being here or not is one more empty seat. Yeah, phew.
or that his being here prevented anton oxf*rd up as badly as with the hockey lot.

sjm will make sure we cut our cloth. Without him that wouldn't necessarily be the case. And I'd say he was fairly central to the sale so it may have been his requirement to only sell half to oversee the transition in case something went wrong.

As much of a legend SJM is, we know he just wont invest the cash needed to establish us in the PL so we should be happy for this to happen. Someone with deeper pockets is needed to take the club further, SJM has pretty much said that himself. Which is why as much as I'd like us to go up this season or next, without a new owner it would almost certainly mean coming straight back down again, with the cash being pocketed.

A proper buyer needs to be found, not a joke buyer like AZ. I would have said I'd trust in SJM to leave the club in very good hands, but after the AZ fiasco I'm not so sure. Lets just hope when it does happen its not a Cardiff or Hull style owner, or we'll be called the Reading Rhinos while playing in red at home.

Better the Anton sort of fiasco than Shinawatra, Gaydamak, Bates, etc.

Agree with the sentiment Ian, but it's way to early to say that. Until the full picture emerges, presumably with the accounts next year, we don't know how much we have been screwed over, or otherwise.

ZacNaloen Because if our Wage bill is over 3 million a month then we might not have the income to cover it.

How on earth would we have a £36 million wage bill? In the premier league maybe, but not after dropping back down.

Because it was £46m last year. So it's going to be high 20s to low 30s at least.

^ I have heard (2nd hand mind you, but the original source was someone "close" to the club) we can barely afford/can't afford the wage bill. Things are very tight and Madejski has signed his last cheque. If that is true it suggests, if you take guaranteed income plus what we would normally get for a championship season... it's gotta be around 30-35 million.

Totally Mental, but it's why we are unable to offer any contracts and why we will need to fire sale in the summer.

Remember, we could well have possibly have budgeted on Anton supplementing the Wage bill above and beyond the guaranteed income to the maximum he is allowed, which is 6 million iirc.

Then we really are in the shit without an owner.

So if we assume all this is fact then we have to sell a good two or three top earners at least.
Who do you think that should be ? Do we go straight for the best players or maybe a few more of the lesser lights?
The obvious ones would be Pog, Drenthe, Guthrie and possibly Macarthey and i think we could probably cope with that.
If that lot go and we start getting into the McCleary's, Gunters, Alfie, Williams then we are fcuked i reckon....
Maybe we should just sell the lot and promote the U21's and U18's who seem to be doing so well at the moment.

Surely JM still had a say in matters as chairman. I can't believe just because Anton has 51% he was able to make all these crazy decisions with JM fuming in the background. Either the rumours are bollocks or JM is also responsible for whatever mess we may be in.
