Pepe the Horseman In terms of timing, this couldn't really have come at a better time. Imagine if we'd been slapped with six or nine after the Huddersfield game, think we'd feel dead and buried and confidence would be rock bottom.

Hound I'm also going for the 6 + 3 suspended
Really hope some clarity is also given on whether that is a slate wiping punishment as well

yeah after Hudders or QPR would have been very worrying. We can absorb it now
Maybe getting a little carried away with a few above average performances, but a win on wed would prob put us in the play off positions. It would then be a shame if we ended up well short again and back in mid table when we had shot up the table

Mr Angry In terms of the punishment we do get, the problem for the EFL is that 9 is the maximum.
When Derby get the 9, having got a much longer list of misdemeanours (including trying to cover up their wrong doing and not co-operating with the Authorities), then what signal does it give out to everyone else if we got the same punishment despite not behaving anywhere near as appallingly as Derby?
I suspect we will get a 6 point deduction with 3 suspended for a number of Years.

NamelessSimmops I just realised we have won the last 3 games. 1 win is 3 points so 3×3=9.
If we get 9 points deducted then those 3 wins get taken away
It doesn’t work like that.
We can pick which games get taken away. I hear we are opting to lose the wins home and away against Bournemouth and away at WBA.

Snowflake RoyalRaxpaultheroyal So, in summary - is this all at the door of Ron Gourlay, was it the excessive contracts during his tenure that was the downfall.
Owners naïve etc but Gourlay was the one?
Absolutely, Ron Gormless is a cancer to every club he appears at - expect WBA to be fooked in 3 years if they don;t go up!
No. Gourlay didn’t work in isolation. The owners appointed and oversaw him. For several key points they were the decision makers and they did little to tidy up the mess after him until actively forced to by the FL.

According to SJM in his interview I heard on the way to Saturdays game, he doesn't oversee the club that much and is entrenched in his other businesses. He fully trusts his CEOs to run the club...which suggests Gourley had more power than we think at the time. It was also interesting that a lot of the debt was caused by investment in infrastructure (new training ground, youth academies etc), so was hinting that we weren't pissing money up the wall Derbyesque style and this might mean that this could be taken into account and we might get a minimum points deduction (whatever that is) at most, or possibly it might not even happen. So there is hope.

Mr Angry We broke the rules; simple as.
Trying to squirm off it by citing technicalities such as spending on infrastructure that, as Dirk points out, doesn't fall under the remit of the rules is frankly embarassing.
Let's hope the EFL take into account how we haven't tried to take the pi$$ out of them so give us a reduced punishment, but we should show a bit of class by accepting whatever the deduction is that we do get given, not whinge about it, and then we get on with it.

We're definitely getting carried away, but Barnsley were 7 points off the POs after 10 games last season, and finished eight points clear of 7th.
