Ian Royal It's not many teams who finish in the top 6 following relegation from the Prem.
Sorry Ian, but we're not there yet. In fact, I would go so far as to say we're actually struggling to finalise a play-off place. 4 games left, 5 points ahead of Swansea and Preston, with Barnsley, Derby, Norwich, and Birmingham left to play, I honestly think that we will struggle to get the points required. I could maybe see us beating Barnsley but with home form the way it is I wouldn't be at all surprised if we drew or lost. We could easily lose to Derby and/or Norwich, and with our record of last day success when chasing something being nigh on woeful in recent years then if we need to beat Birmingham then I would put money on us losing. It's about time we lost to them anyway. In short, I wouldn't be surprised to find our current relegation form of 4 wins in 18 extend to 4 wins in 22 come seasons end.
Incidentally, I thought it was right that Coppell stay this year for the continuity factor. I'm undecided as to whether he should stay for next year. His record of building teams over periods of time is pretty good, but his loyalty to those teams verges on the ridiculous as proven the last 2 seasons. I'm of the opinion that if he stays, we'll at least stay in the Championship next year, probably be upper mid-table if we can keep our best assets. If he goes, I want a proven manager at this level, but Madejski's record of appointing managers has been questionable to say the least. McGhee was a success, Quinn/Gooding were not, Bullivant was a disaster as was Burns. Pardew was a cheap option IMO which turned out to be a success. The only proven manager at Championship level he has ever appointed is Coppell.
