Ian Royal Pretty poor display from Reading. Too many hopeful long searching balls or hoofs clear straight to Stoke when we needed to play it short. No movement in midfield because Legs stands and watches too much. Still, fairly solid defensively apart from totally ignoring Huth from a corner. Great finish from Jerome with little room to do so. Harte's set piece delivery was dire apart from the corner we scored from.

Don't think Blackman showed any more quality than against Sunderland. Still early days, but not impressed with him at over £1m. So far looks maybe good enough for the Championship. ALF continues to ooze quality. Pog needs to stop collapsing under close guard just because he's lost the challenge. Akpan looks great when we pass the ball well. An absolute steal from Crawley. Legs really needs to move towards the ball more rather than waiting for it, pass short more and when he plays a through ball weight it properly, rather than belt it. But he's still our best physical defensive midfielder by some way.

Good display by Fed apart from the spilled stop that Pearce had to save him with. Mariappa brilliant.

Great write-up. Could not agree more.

LoyalRoyalFan Big question is why McDermott went with Blackman over Le Fondre?

Blackman was shite.

Because he started with Blackman on the left in a 4-5-1.

Agreed with most of this.

Ball retention cost us; we just kept surrendering possession whenever we got the ball and this allowed Stoke to pummel our box. We defended excellently on the whole, but if you allow sides to come at you wave after wave in this league, your resistance will 9/10 times be broken.

Big Ern Better team won and we did well to make the scoreline respectable. The curse of "Manager of the Month" strikes again. Wigan next week is so crucial. We have to play much better than today to get points next week.

No MOTM curse - we beat Sunderland in the 1st game of Feb.

.

But the award hadn't been announced at that point! So the curse is still there!

Villa will be loving these results today. West Ham have an awful record at Villa Park as well.

We simply must beat Wigan now no fcuking about.

The shot was deflected and feds was wrong footed. Did well to save it at all imho.

Blackman was shite.

because Blackman has played on the wing before and ALF is a striker. Why he choose Blackman over McCleary is the correct question.

McCleary and HRK are actual wingers as well. Need Guthrie back asap

There is no curse - how many did Coppell win in 2005/6 and 2006/7?

Mariappa was good good for the first 70 mins or so, after that tho he was poor in defence. It was his rubbish header that went straight to Jerome for their 2nd goal. He then scored to essentially cancel out the mistake. But then once again another poor header, in which he completely missed the ball, led straight to the shot where Feds parried and Pearce did a great tackle.

Surely it cannot be a curse for the last game as the results were not published?

Err, please tell me the date that the award was chosen/announced? And when was the Sunderland game played? It's the award that is the curse, not the month it relates to!

no thanks. 4-5-1. 4-4-2 near the end against tired legs.

People are forgetting the punishment we received with 4-4-2.

So do some others who were at the game. Will be interesting to see what MOTD/Goals on Sunday make of it.

No one thinks there's actually a curse. It's obviously just a question of probability and coincidence. But it crops up often enough (naturally) to have a bit of a joke about there being one.

I thought it was a pen, but it was relatively soft and ALF was looking for it a bit. We didn't deserve points so I'm not that fussed.
