Royal Lady RR was detailing the type of manager RFC should have - and I was just saying that we had that in McDermott - he knew the academy set up inside out for a start and I believe he had a long-term strategy for the club, plus he didn't spend millions of pounds. And we got shot, probably on AZ's say so - yet AZ didn't even hang around long enough to see what happened this season, for whatever reason. Had we still got McD, we could quite feasibly be in an even better position now.

Everyone accepts that if we still had Brian we would be in a better position than we are now. The only point up for debate is whether Atkins is better in the Premiership than McDermott because he's better at getting club owners to spend more money.

Extended-Phenotype
melonhead

a managers ability to bring through youth is determined by the quality of the youth at his disposal.

Sure. Just sayin. Loved McD but academy-blooding, youth-empowering mastermind he wasn't. He probably gave less chance to youth than any of our recent managers. Not knocking him for it, plenty of reasons as to why, just think it's a silly thing to hail him for.

no ones hailing anything
just saying he wasnt shit at it, and has a decent record.

tbf though, like i said, its not really a measure of anything.
if your academy is full of brilliant players you'll bring em through.
if your academy has less good players, you'll bring less through.
much less to do with the managers mythical ability to "bring through" the yoof

I was just throwing a response out there to the notion that we'd be better off with McD if we were to take a more youth-orientated approach because he was "better at blooding academy players".

Everyone? Really?

Put simply that is a question that does not have an answer, unless of course there is a parallel universe in which Brian is still manager and you have the ability to jump between the two so that you can make a comparison.

Madejski admits it was a mistake to sell 51 per cent of the shares to Anton.

Revelatory stuff but are Anton's shares actually for sale. Madejski can't sell them.

Can we have another round of 'One John Madejski" at Saturdays game against Blackburn to show our appreciation for the Chairman. Surely he has done more than anyone for Reading FC over the years. We can all criticise the guy for minor points but where he has taken this club during his tenure has been further than in the rest of the Clubs history ..... One John Madejski, local boy made good, good all round bloke and great Chairman

Local boy made good? Wasn't he born in Stoke on Trent?

I refuse to comment on the rest of the psychophantic bullshit as it doesn't warrant or justify a response.

No, let's not.
There is far too much about chairmen, owners, managers, coaches etc. in today's game , let's just hear it for the players who we have come to watch.

From Stoke actually and also with regards to the round of "One John Madejsk?" I think not.

Why would anyone sing tho praises of the man desperate to flog us to the first person he can find to buy it. He helped us a lot and his contribution to the club should not be forgotten , but I think the last few years will damage his legacy as far some supporters are concerned
