Needed to bring in a decent striker, without spending silly money and did so.
Good.

Reading wanted a loan deal for Murray because of his recent injury. An agreement is in place to buy at a set price in Jan #readingfc

More good work from the much maligned Nicky H.

Yep, fair's fair.

However, on the Drenthe thread it is claimed that Steve Parish clearly stated to the BBC last night that Murray is only being loaned to us to get fit and that they have no intention of selling him!

Well given that Murray himself has said that it's with a view to a permanent move I'd say it's SP that is talking bull.

Nicky Hammond is quoted in the Post today as saying we have an option to buy him at an agreed price in January

Clearly Hammond and Parish could both be right if that agreed priced is unrealistic and unlikely to be taken up, eg £10m

Royal Ginger It's a time purchase. If everyone likes the deal in January then it'll be permanent. Try before you buy. I like it.

Bullshit. Its thrifty and if he's any good we'll lose him in the January window.

Same old cheap as shit Reading, millions in, players gone, nothing of note spent.
the loan allows us to assess if he fits in, scores goals. And is fit.

Whether we get him forever is irrelevant I'd he gets 10 goals before jan

How about this scenario

Reading offer £1m, Palace say he's worth £2m. As deadline day approaches, Palace say okay take him on loan then and he'll prove he's worth £2m and we'll give you the option to buy him for that...... or Reading yes he's worth that but we can only give you £0.5m now as the takeover hasn't happened yet, Palace say there's no guarantee it will happen, but ive us that £0.5m and you can have him on loan with an agreement to buy him for the £2.0m less the £0.5m you've already paid.

Could be all sorts of reasons why we only got him on loan, might be the player unsure about joining - He'll want a chance in the premiership and if he joins and we start climbing the table he might want to stay aboard our ship, If he does well and it's not enough then he can attract a rival team at the top end of the table...... or maybe he's waiting until Warnock gets the sack as he might get a chance under the next manager in January.

Well, it's done. Now we can work through the loan window on signing someone permanent.

Only reservation with the January expiry is that by then.....y'know lets just say for reasons of ownership and lack of funds, to pluck a scenario out of the sky.....we get a 'Chris Baird/Billy Sharp situation' and are unable to extend the loan and someone else nips in :!:

He did an interview saying just that, but they haven't published it.

TBH that's actually positive. The last thing we want in your scenario is to be committed to something we can't afford. It would just compound the seriousness of the that disaster.

Can see two lines of reasoning here

What if the takeover doesn't go through? we'll need some of that left over transfer money we just got.

What if he gets injured again?

Loan is best for us, and that's all that the matters.

He'll also be 31 in a couple of weeks, and if he was asking for a 3 year contract, as rumored, we could end up getting stuck with him on high wages as he declines.

Quite the opposite, I think most people are very happy with a quality striker in a try before you buy deal. I certainly am.

He might not be good/fit
If he’s good we might not be able to hold onto him

The happy part is what, “at least we won’t have spent much money”?

Party on.

Why do you keep trotting out this line? It's not even remotely accurate based on the information available.

I don't keep trotting it out. I've said it twice - fair enough concern after what has happened to us before regarding short loans.
