Snowflake Royal Because Pauno is the first manager to finish a season they started under their tenure.
Because despite improving Pauno doesn't know if he has a job.
Because despite improving us Bowen got sacked.
About a week before the season started.
Because they appointed a new manager without removing the old one.
Because they thought they could buy off Bowen by moving him sideways
Because they allowed Gourlay to put us in the financial shitter.
Because we're still spending twice our income and oxf*rd on FFP
Because despite our financial issues they refused to sell players we could get excellent money for.
And then handed Moore a PL salary for 4 years.
And after just squeaking out of a soft transfer embargo spunked millions on new signings that immediately put us back under a transfer embargo
Because they moved Howe out of control when he voiced concerns about our finances after he took over from Gourlay.

So Pauno in?

I've never had a problem with Pauno beyond his lack of relevant experience to be appointed.

Of course Pauno in. Why do you think I started a thread saying as much.

I don't automatically hate the new manager just because they replaced someone I liked and didn't think should be sacked. This may make me rare here.

Rest assured you’re rare for entirely different reasons.

Why are they clowns? Because they brought in Pauno?

Tbf you can turn a lot of this on it’s head post Gourlay which was obvs a fcuk up of major proportions

Got a brand new training ground l, turned a dismal, old, overpaid squad round and now have very few on long expensive contracts and instead have lots of saleable assets

Despite being under embargo we’ve gone from relegation probabilities to just missing out on the POs

Every manager they have brought in have arguably improved us - certainly the last two

Invested in the academy and now reaping the rewards with Olise, Holmes, TMc, Rino all coming through to be regulars with another set - Tetek, Southwood, Onen on the fringes

It was going to take a hell of an effort to bring us round from the hole we were in 2-3 years ago and they might just have done it

How will you feel on that if they sack Pauno?

What about if we end up under another embargo?

Or a points deduction?

Or have to have a fire sale to avoid the above and nosedive again?

All of those scenarios are entirely possible. I just hope it doesn’t come to that but as an entity Reading FC is vulnerable as we are so beholden to our owners and that concerns me.

So do I, but the owners lost me permanently last summer and the sooner they're gone the better IMO. Just hope we don't end up with anyone as bad or worse.

Who would want to take over? We are not exactly an enticing prospect with so much debt. We certainly used to be in the early noughties. It genuinely saddened me when I read the accounts for 2019/20.

Dunno, guess I’ll see if and when it happens. Until then I think the path has generally been a positive one over the last 18 months or so

Didn’t think they should have employed then binned Bowen but it worked out ok

Well roll on next season. I've had a celebratory tipple to hammer home the fact that Baldock and Aluko will never play in a Reading shirt again. This day couldn't have come too soon.
Looking at options...players like Barry Mannon should be cheap now and maybe a couple of cheaper options.....
All is not lost and maybe we can plug those gaps where injuries have hurt us this season.

Listening to Pauno's review of the season that BBC Berks played at the end of the show. Seems as if he has been very protective of the players. Blames match fatigue and lack of experience in the squad for the tail off at the end of the season.

Fatigue is probably fair... so many injuries mean it's been hard to rest anyone. No real break between seasons and a hell of a match schedule.

Do question the lack of experience though. Moore, Morrison, Yiadom and Cabral are hardly inexperienced. Same for the bit part Baldock and Aluko, Swift's been in relegation and promotion fights

If Pauno does go;do it now,not the week before the season starts.Where we go from here though,I really don’t know.If there is a points deduction for us;then there are a number of other clubs in the division in the same boat. This gives us a chance.

Yep. Gourlay was gone by the start of the 2018/19 season. Yes we were still in a mess because of the long and lavish contracts he had agreed with the likes of Moore, Aluko, Mannone etc but we had the sudden splurge on Joao, Puscas, Rafael etc plus expensive loan signings just after we came out of that soft embargo. We chose not to sell Loader.

Precisely.

It should be the manager's job to plan for the current and next season. The DoF to plan for the next 2 seasons, and the CEO and owner to plan for the next 3 to 5 seasons.

And it's very obvious our owner can't look beyond this season, maybe next at a push.

Do we know the loans were expensive? Puscas and Joao were decent investments that have scored goals for us. Rafael solved a big issue we had at the time

Honestly think they learned a lot from the gourlay disaster. Everything since has been fairly sensible bar loader which was a mistake. But guessing that’d been worth no more than a million or two anyway

Semedo and Esteves won't exactly be cheap, but probably don't break the bank.

I think safe to say we've got our money's worth from Joao and he's proved a good signing. Puscas is lagging some way behind though, and wasn't he more expensive?

Solid first season, if not spectacular and then spent most of this injured or on the bench. Way too expensive a signing just to sit on the bench IMO... whilst our transfer dealing has got a lot better, that does suggest we still hadn't got it quite right, signing two big money strikers we don't intend to play together much.

Big question is that signings generally improved with the arrival of Bowen, either as consultant, DoF or Manager. Morro and Laurent being the standout person we've made... wouldn't be surprised if Cabral is more his influence too, feels similar to those two...

Pauno is completely untested in the transfer market and the behind the scenes recruitment team will be different now too.

Something watch closely for warning signs.

Hold my hands up and say I can’t prove the loanees were expensive. I doubt Virginia would have been but Miazga and Boye may have been.

Rafael's a bit actually good and not stupid money for Kia... but probably. Wouldn't rule out Bowen though.
