Forthwith.....no mention of caretaking, no mention of a search for a new manager starting.

It would be very nice indeed if the club would put out a fcuking statement and clarify what the hell is going on.

Agreed. This reads to me like McDermott is the new manager, but you'd expect a bigger piece on him were that to be the case.

Royalee Let's not let the fans decide...

the list is pretty shocking in fairness:

Burley - sacked by Ipswich, Hearts and Scotland, wouldn't be able to afford him and he wouldn't be able to do anything with this squad.

Coppell - destroyed everything Pardew and Madejski built yet enjoys hero worship for 2 good seasons in 6. Won't want to come back and face the music for what he realises he's done.

Sanchez - failed at Wycombe, failed at Fulham - does Alan Partridge want him though?

Cotterill - Burnley improved as soon as he left, mediocre to poor.

Curbishley - absolutely no way he'd come here with the lack of resources, LOL at him getting a mention, he's not stupid enough to take the job.

O'Driscoll - wouldn't come here from Doncaster as they don't have an idiot for a chairman.

Paul Hart - kicked out of Forest, Barnsley and Portsmouth, no thanks.

Hoddle - failed at Spurs and Wolves with reasonable money available, I don't think Jimmy Kebe would understand Eileen Drewery.

Tisdale - Doubt he'd come here - there must be better jobs available to him and he's enjoying it where he is.

Parkinson - Hated at Hull, has so far achieved nothing at Charlton.

Southgate - LOL

Ferguson - best candidate on paper, but he'd only work if he was backed financially, which is very unlikely given Madejski is 'cutting the cloth'.

re Sanchez, to say he failed at Wycombe is a bit rich considering they have never been as good since he left there. Kept Fuham up then struggled the next year. I think Sanchez with little or no resources is fine, it's when he gets cash to spend he didn't cover himself in glory at Fulham. Conveniantly left NI off there who would have him back tomorrow.

He wouldn't be my first choice but i'd sooner him than the clown who has just left.

Your post is an angry stroppy response that is quite laughable. You dismiss several candidates who have done more in a season than Rodgers has done in his lifetime. Fact is Rodgers has been a complete and utter disaster for this club and he's cost us an absolute fortune to first hire and then fire.

Sanchez most certainly failed at Wycombe. I should know as I lost money on them throughout his time in charge. He had FOUR FULL YEARS at Adams Park, and left them where they were when he joined, in a fight to avoid relegation from the third flight. I thought Sanchez was going to be very good; he wasn't, at best he was decidedly average.
To describe poor Rodgers as a clown, when the poor man had less than half a season to show what he was capable of, and prefer a PROVEN failure, and dreadful moaner to boot, is further evidence of the lack of judgement prevalent amongst many of the anti-Rodgers brigade. Rodgers may have gone on to be a complete and utter disaster for your club, but if he's cost it an absolute fortune blame Madejski for not standing by his man.
I just hope the new manager, be it McDermott or otherwise, can get the team winning soon and finish the season with as many points as possible. My money isn't on Brendan Rodgers' Reading this season, it's on READING.

And what exactly did Wycombe who barely had any resource expect to achieve? He kept them in that division every year with next to no money, got them to an FA Cup Semi final. Just look where they've been since. League 2, until this season and hey guess what...they're going down.

They made the wrong decision with Rodgers but thankfully they've acted before it's too late. He showed enough in those 21 games to show what he was capable of...taking a side down because that's where Reading were going.

Darren Ferguson for the record was my choice when Coppell went and he is still my choice, would be happy with Curbs, Southgate maybe would all be in my personal list above Sanchez, but to describe him as a failure at Wycombe is just moronic.

Arch I love the option of "Sean O'Driscoll, unproven at a big club". Well that's him ruled out for the Reading job then.

good call, i,d forgotten about him. encourages nice football ,by all accounts

Yes, but he needs a Chairman who stands by him. The first year that he was in charge at Donny the fans were calling for his head. Sir John Ryan, unlike Madejski, isn't a spineless individual who sacks his man six months after head-hunting him. Ryan stood four-square behind O'Driscoll and has been rewarded for his loyalty.

Arch
Royalee John Madejski

Genius! Why didn't I think of that? He can have Cilla in the backroom.

I think what the two of them get up to is between themselves and anyway they're 'just friends'.

You would of course know being so keen on Reading FC that this is a very rare occurence for Madejski to lose patience so soon.He stuck next to all of his managers beforehand. Pards was under pressure, turned it round, as did Coppell. Maybe like us he'd heard and seen enough of Rodgers to decide it wasn't going to happen.

Rodgers team wasn't functioning and when you think the corner maybe turning the prat ruins the team and they get done 4-2 at home by a massively mediocre Palace side. There was not enough progress, not enough resiliance and not enough consistency with Rodgers, he might make a decent manager one day but he's too naieve and too inexperienced for a job like this.

Oh, wait.
I might prefer Southgate.
Oh, who gives a damn.
It's 'Cloth cutter' who makes the decision.

Very near...far away BBC Football refers to McDermott as temporary manager. I'm sure they know.

Yeah... they're usually in the know

This has all happened suddenly and there are a few rumours flying around about what happened in this meeting. If there has been a fall out which has ended with Rodgers getting the boot, then to just say Brian is in charge is the right thing to do for now. They wouldn't have been prepared or expecting to be hunting for a new manager, but i do hope they are encouraging applications and will appoint someone fairly soon.

Schards#2 Have to agree that this is the stupidest comment ever posted on HNA. And I've read lots of Woodcote Royal's.

Meanwhile, this board is full to bursting with ignorance filled page after tedious page of self obsessed guff emanating from your long suffering keyboard.

There are many good options out there, some more costly than others but, as ever, the childish wish to trash those they hadn't thought of before making their choice.

There is only one event that will see me not renewing my season ticket and that would be the return of Steve Coppell ....................beyond that I'll support whoever the club decides to hire.

Sacked by Hearts? I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that he walked out on Hearts because he didn't like the interference from the chairman when it came to team selection.

By the way, he wasn't long at Derby either.

Still he has a track record at this level with Ipswich.

The argument for Coppell's return grows more compelling by the minute.

Not convinced making McDermott is the right choice - tremendous scout and obviously very capable, but just say that he has the same run of form as Rodgers did and a few months down the line things are no better - what do Egoman and Grapefeeder do then - sack him, or alternatively, demote him back to his former role ?? neither of which the bloke deserves

-He's an integral part of the club and his future position at the club shouldnt be compromised by taking this poison chalice

Why? Based on what?

Have you forgotten that he guided the reserve team to the title a season back or so?

Ian Royal
Royal Lady Who is that manager who just left Notts County after only 7 weeks in charge?

Why is everyone getting excited about Darren Ferguson - didn't he get sacked from Peterborough, because they weren't doing very well?? What's the difference between us and Peterborough?? Esp if we have no money to give a new manager for January. :|

about 10,000 fans, shit loads of infrastructure, a bit more money and better players.

I noted our superiority at Peterborough earlier this season...

And Rodgers sucessfully managed Chelsea reserves, it does not make you a good 1st team manager.
