The simple faxct is that this club is not worth more that it was when they bought it and therefore just getting their money back is probably the best they can hope for. In the current situation the value is only going one way.

No news on players at this stage. Fingers crossed the deal goes through but as mentioned above, one big obstacle to overcome #readingfc

Behind the scenes ‏@flyonthewallrfc 10m
Main obstruction is the fact the owners won't receive any money out of the deal. Theoretically the offer is to pay for the debt #readingfc

English/Irish group in advanced talks to buy the club. Possible announcement with the next week or so #readingfc

Is there some actual information on what the basis of the story behind these tweets is all about or is it just the usual made up fishing ?

word is there is a deal being put together and it's looking positive. from what I was told last year any additional money would be considered a bonus not a deal breaker.

That's probably what I looked like 10 minutes ago, when I was told I have an audit tomorrow.

With the st8 Sir John is in I think he'll be glad just to get any money he's put in back out.

Fuck knows about Anton though.

Don't think Anton really figures, it's his dad who's been bankrolling.

Weren't they looking at trying to break the lease so Irish could go back to London? Would be pretty ironic if within a few months, they actually ending up owning the stadium and the landlord.

They certainly favour the move back. I think David Conn's recent article on our finances suggested them being here was worth £1m a season, so we wont be keen to let them break it.

TBF John has got most of his money out of the club, pretty much all the loans have transferred to AZ.

Still owed about £9m iirc from the accounts. And owns 49% of the club. In theory that's £20m or so total.

I doubt it because he won't get the £11m on top of his debt, and he is sensible enough to know that.

Last summers debt was £38m. If we have, as rumoured, loaned parachute payments early, then that is additional debt. This club has more debt than the current value of the club itself, so I can't see SJM having £20m worth left in it. He may be able to get his £9m (if that is still owed) back, but he may have to forget the value of the shares if he wants to see the club sell any time soon. AZ may also have to accept the same, and only get back what's been loaned in - if indeed we are in such a state.

I say in theory, just because it's at the latest valuation we have. I'm not convinced the club is hugely less valuable than three years ago. We're a bit stuck right now, but our tribulations are largely speculation and there are certainly ways we could sort it out, depending on how the summer goes.

Sparta: We had lots of debt when Anton bought his shares too. It's not like all of that £38m is new, significantly higher certainly. And as I said, half of what you say is pure speculation regardless of how you want to try and infer it as fact.

We've been pretty skint since the first time in the prem. That was partly masked by the resale value of that team but when the financial crisis came and the banks froze our overdraft in the Rodgers era we had problems. We sold Glyfi one season and Shane Long the next @£5milllion each to balance the books and without Anton and the purchase of Roberts/promotion we would have been struggling at the end of that season to do the same.

Then Anton created a large hole in the accounts with his ambitions and relegation created its own wages hole so now things are very much bleaker as I don't think we have one, let alone two or three players worth £5 million to get us out of this one.

Fair point. How much debt did we have when SJM saved us and bought is for £1?
