JimmytheJimWimbJimmytheJim Whoever had a dig at Stephen Hunt can f*ck off.
As far as I'm concerned the 106 squad is untouchable. I don't care what happened to them after they left, or in the months leading up to their departures. That season and the first season in the Premier League were amazing and all of those players (even John Oster) are heroes.
Idolising them and holding them up as untouchable heros was part of the problem in the first place. Players should ALWAYS be trying to prove themselves to fans throughout their time with a club and not just sit back and bask in things that happened a few years ago.
It is possible to both respect what a player has done and to criticise their failures.
5 years later, I'm not sure what kind of a grudge anyone can justifiably hold.
It smacks of a very short memory to me.

Hunts contribution to that season was replacing Convey on 75 minutes every game while the stadium groaned at his appearance. He was woeful that season.

winchester_royal  @ John Oster being a hero for getting paid 10k a week to sit on the bench and occasionally come on and wiggle his bum for 10 minutes.
Is Michael Dobson a hero too?

As a Reading fan, I really don't see the point in retrospectively disparaging the players who formed our greatest ever squad (to date) during our most successful period as a football club.
Perhaps we just have different concepts of fandom.
Typical STG v RTG really. I think STGs are a bunch of whinging ungrateful feckers, and you think I live in a fluffy fantasy land.
Anyway, McCleary seems like a really good bit of business and I can't wait for HNA to get on his back for not being Messi or Ronaldo.

'Reading were first to show an interest, and despite a late bid from another high-profile club, the Madejski Stadium was always going to be his likely destination.'
So who was the other 'high profile club'?

CamberleyRoyal I was at the hotel yesterday and Brian McDermott was sat with Gareth McCleary having a chat whilst Nicky Hammond structured a deal with his agent. He is 24 and was Nottingham Forest player of the season but his contact has expired. Assuming the financials match up then this should be concluded shortly.

Barry the bird boggler So is this a new feature of Reading negotiations? Complete them in full view and earshot of the public - but then if make out we're a family club why not goal the whole hog? Perhaps the players will be buying pressies for the fans on their birthdays and at xmas soon.
Bring Back The SB I live in Camberley too, what are you wearing?
Oh, and you speak rubbish.
TBM So how come you just happened to be "at the hotel"
Wycombe Royal So this is 3rd or 4th newbie with transfer rumours. No doubt they are all the same person.

Try.
Harder.
