Now all that is left to do is for SJM to issue his own apology on behalf of the players for the "performance" on tuesday night...

Brilliantly handled by SJM and well done to the Chronicle for ending the issue quickly. You just have to wonder about the deluded mind of the idiot who wrote it - was he trying to be clever or funny?

Now all we need is a formal open letter from the players to the fans profusely apologising for Tuesday night's fiasco against Barnsley.
I expect the owner of the newspaper will have a chat with Chairman and there will be a number of family friendly RFC articles in the next few months. Both feed off eachother so neither will want this bad blood to run on too long.
as I expected.

Among the claims made in the piece were that Reading fans made Nazi salutes, were drunk and fought with visiting supporters.

I can cope with the Nazi salutes and the fighting, but being drunk? at a football match? Outrageous.

It's an outrage the Chronicle has had to apologise, at the very next home game after the edition in question the fans showed their rampant hooligan tendencies by repeatedly chanting in an abusive fashion.

I seem to recall it went like this:

The Chronicle,
is full of shit.
The Chronicle is full of shit,
it's full of shit, shit and more shit.
The Chronicle is full of shit.

Frankly, outrageous behaviour worthy of incarceration. It was symptomatic of the ineffectual stewarding complicit in our crowd trouble than none of the ring leaders were ejected.

I suspect that his suspension has very little to do with comments about Reading Football Club, and a lot more to do with the Attorney General's Office investigating complaints into the Hillsborough comments.

The Liverpool Echo are reporting that AG has looked into & won't take any further action as doesn't meet his test.

“In this case he has concluded that however ill-judged the remark may have been, he does not consider that the test is met in this case. He considers any juror reading the article would not be prejudiced from impartially assessing the evidence he or she hears at the inquest."

Subtext - any sane juror would recognise the article for the rubbish it is.

Chronicle's Apology ... Royals fans have a well-deserved reputation for excellent behaviour.

Unfortunately our article and the front page in particular did not make this clear.

What the article stated

Last Weeks Article "Drunken brawls, racist chanting and sickening Hillsborough slurs – we expose the horrifying hooliganism blighting Reading FC"

I an not really sure how much clearer the article could have been

Does anyone remember the trouble after a Reading defeat at The Manor Ground? (probably one of RFCs last games there) Reading lads storming up the road where the crown green bowling club is, to be greeted by riot police on horses who came wading in........the pub at the top of the road, all the windows were smashed in.....

I walked past Nick Gutteridge on Tuesday night in town. Seeing him in the flesh made me actually quite sympathetic towards him, he's exactly the cowering loser you'd expect.

Which one was it where Barry Hunter delibretly took out the CCTV camera in the away end?
