royalexile Brendan Rodgers has parted company with Reading, the struggling Coca-Cola Championship club.

The surprise move came only six months after the former Watford manager was appointed to succeed Steve Coppell at the Madejski Stadium.

However, it could prove a lucrative departure for Rodgers, who is believed to have had a clause in his contract that stated, if he was dismissed, he would be paid the full term of his three-year deal.

It could explain why his exit was officially described as being “by mutual consent”, suggesting that a financial compromise has been struck.

Dean Austin, his assistant, and Frank Lampard Sr, Reading’s football consultant, who both joined with Rodgers, have also left. Brian McDermott, the chief scout, takes responsibility for first-team matters until a new manager is appointed.

From the Times sports page.

I am confused by the term 'mutual consent'. Consent is usually something given by one party to another party. I could understand if the statement referred to 'mutual agreement'. 'Mutual consent' would suggest there's been a compromise. I wonder if there's any truth in the rumours about Rodgers and the NI vacancy.

Laws also left Wednesday "by mutual consent" and if Worthington goes to them there will be a Northern Ireland vacancy for which Brendan has no credentials apart from being Northern Irish.
Imagine the soundbites "This is the job I have always dreamed of" and when they get tonked 6-0 by somebody like Belarus he would describe his own team's performance as "outstanding" and they are just short of a "wee bit of luck".
Blarney and Brendan go together nicely.
For all that he hasn't done I wish him well but don't forget he will be reciving a tidy amount of money as a settlement-I wonder if we will see the exact amount in the next accounts?

Maybe Rodgers and Worthington can team up together somewhere, they are cousins after all........

i think the whole club has been a shambles over the last 2-3 years. the dizzy heights of the premiership (with coppell) gave us altitude sickness and since a string of bad decisions is costing us. sad to see a Reading man through and through being sacked, but he wasn't 'cutting the mustard' so has to go. perhaps at a better time but when is a good time.

i think the problems with this club are in the board room:

hammond- an ugly ginger...don't think he really has a clue what he is doing, with regards to letting simon cox go....
madejski- doesn't give a flying oxf*rd anymore and may as well bugger off as far as i'm concerned, how is he meant to sell his club for a wealthy sum when we are in division 1. all it needs is some decent loan signings, some young talent (beckford), you get what you pay for.

as far as next manager goes, i would love to see jimmy quinn back, or lawrie sanchez. both former royals and i'm sure would do a better job than rodgers!

I think Fergie Jnr will get it, would prefer someone a little more proven but at least he's acheived something in his career unlike Rodgers.

If I'm honest, I am actually a little bit gutted that Rodgers has left. He came up through the ranks at Reading and had good ties at the club, was wishing for him to do well. Until he opened his mouth all the time that is

winchester_royal A bit sad really, could have been a good long term option at a more stable time for the club.

Oh well.

In LaLa Land! Too much of a Billy Big BOllox and no experience. Will turn out to be the Steve McLaren of the lower leagues at the very best. Should have served his time at a smaller club and actualy achieved something before giving it the large one.
