UpNorth Tricky one this.

The fact is Gorkss was not considered good enough to start in the Prem by QPR.

I think Brian is likely to give him a chance to impress but I would not be surprised to see him make way for Mapps.

I think that was QPRs mistake. I really like he cut of Gorkss jib so hope the place is his to lose. He'll certainly have a point to prove.

Actually I should think Pearce and Gorkss will start against Stoke, if Mariappa is only 5'10...

Dare to Dr£am So after many twists and turns it's Friday's Legacy who gets the last laugh!

TBM BBTSB surely

Friday's Legacy I don't much care for getting it right or not, I'm just glad we've got the boy on board. As I said at the time, the information was passed onto me from someone who knew a lot more about it than myself. I heard from another source about the fee being agreed verbally, which it was, and then retracted. Initially it was the case that Watford wanted to let their fans down gently by letting out sound-bites about rejecting bids, rather than be seen to accept the first offer on the table, but then unbeknown to any of us, the club entered takeover talks and suddenly, along with Southampton showing their interest, they wanted more money. We walked away, until this all resurfaced again once Zola was brought in and made the decision to let the player leave if he wanted to move on. Right or wrong, I'm really not fussed. I'm just glad we've brought in a bright young talent who will improve while he's here and hopefully take us to another level.

I'm having a couple of cold beers on you tonight my good man!! This is a brilliant signing. What a summer so far! Is it a 3 year or 4 year deal? Mixed reports in the media. Having been this optimistic about a new season since the first season at the Madstad (don't remind me about what happened that season...)

As I said - I'm not fussed what people think. Just glad we got him in the end. He's a very good player who has bags of potential.

solid signing. good backup if gorkks and pearce keep their form from last season. also could be a great starter if either loses their form for a little while.

Not sure he'll be backup. I think this'll be a key battle within the squad, which i fear that Gorkss may (initially at least) lose.

who are ya? Adrian Williams
Adrian Viveash
Adrian Whitbread
Adrian Marriapa

All centre backs as well I believe .....

Personally I think Pearce should be 3rd choice now, but as vice-captain this may not be possible.
I love his attitude, but I think he still has some development before he's Premier League standard.
Interesting to see if the vice-captain status stays with him.

Gorko is first on the team sheet, no doubt about that.

Will be interesting to see which of Pearce and Marri join him.

Why? Pearce was our best player last season, fully deserved his award. Gorkss at times looked shakey, and was exposed far more than Pearce was, IMO. Must be a reason why Warnock looked upon Gorkss as a championship player. We shall see, but I'd be willing to put a bet on Pearce's level head and passion starting along side Mapps' pace come 18th August.

gorkss/pearce was a good PARTNERSHIP
its down to mariappa to break into that pairing, and keep his place once he does so
imo

Good luck to Aidy.

Got the pace and passing to settle into the Premiership ok.

Concentration might be a problem and not the tallest so don't put him up against Crouch for example!

I was very pleased with this signing, should fit in well at Reading. But in my opinion we should start with Pearce and Gorkss, the CB pairing that got us here. I can see Mariappa breaking into the starting 11 after not so long however.

Reminds me of the old Keith Knight song. Could work with an extra 'bit' to it!

Next time Reading fans indulge in some self-flagellation about our supposed lack of repetoire, just remember.....everyone else is just as hopeless as we are :| . Particularly Watford; family clubs, Rumblestix, as much atmosphere as a morgue.....they're more Reading than Reading.

This.

He'll get games as it'll be a long season, and it's definitely a bonus to have some genuine competition in defence.
