RDM is loved (apparently) by Drogba, Lampard, Cole, Terry et al, perhaps the master plan is to appoint him and become known as the other Chelsea pensioners?

Talk of di matteo reminds of tommy burns. Big name Billy big bollox wih good experience coming here expecting us to be a huge club ready to splash millions only to find out we do things the Reading way, proceed to be completely ineffectual under those terms and get the boot.

RDM took a half decent side who had just been relegated back up and then didn't do too well in the prem. he also did rubbish in the league for Chelsea. Hell just be a big name billy big bollox expecting cash to flow his way. Well to be honest even my nan can do a fair job managing given enough cash to spend.

Now if we're no longer doing things the reading way that's kind of ok, but I hope to some degree we do. And I don't think he'll do as well with that.

I have no idea why Curbishley isn't being talked about much more.

I thought the reason Curbishley left West Ham was cos they weren't going to give him loads of money to spend on players.................

It's because he wasn't happy that some players were sold.

His record with them was IMPECCABLE.

The fact that so few people vote for him is shocking.

He is by far my number one choice.

Impeccable? He lost more games than he won and had a net transfer spend of around £30m.

But we don't do things 'the Reading way' any more. That's why McD was sacked.

7wins from 9 games saving them from certain relegation
Next season top 10 finish from a side previously being dead certs for relegation despite key injuries
A good start to following season before he left.

I recommend freedictionary.com mate.

Di Matteo will be living off his Champions League success of course, but his record is pretty decent. He took MK Dons to the play-offs (missing out on automatic promotion by 2 points) and lost on penalties in his only season with them.

He then got West Brom promoted at the first attempt and they started the Premier League really well. Obviously the West Brom board thought he wasn't going to work long term after a bad run of results though!

I don't think he masterminded the success at Chelsea, I think that was largely the players who did that, he just reverted to the old guard and let them go out and prove AVB wrong and by doing so had the players on side and harmony within the squad. He also got a nice slice of good fortune.

His teams have generally played a nice brand of football and I really liked his midfield of Brunt, Koren and Dorrans when they went up. That was an excellent side.

Bearing that in mind I think he'd be a good option, if interested. My only reservations were the criticism of his coaching at West Brom and I'm not sure he's ever shown much nouse in the transfer market. His success has largely been short term and with the squad of players he inherited.

I know, how rubbish is Curbishley that in 585 PREMIERSHIP games, he only won 39% (38.5 CA, 41% WHU)
Useless compared to.....
David Moyes (42% at Everton)
Tony Pulis (35% at Stoke)
Roberto Martínez (28% at Wigan)
Alan Pardew (38% at Newcastle)
Martin O'Neill (42% at Villa, 33% at Sunderland)
Steve Clarke (42.5% at West Brom)

I threw in Wigan for comparison here. These were all achieved in Prem and NOT League two!

Very few managers achieve more than 50% wins. Harry Redknapp has career statistics of 40.5% and he gets seen as a miracle worker

A little perspective helps

RDM took a relegated WBA to 2nd in the Championship, and they were then 13/14th or so in the PL iirc when he was sacked the following season, up to November he had led them to their best ever start to a PL season, before their form fell away.

He then went to Chelsea and won two trophies, including the biggest prize in European football, by recognising weaknesses in the squad and devising game plans to suit that.

So what are we looking for - a manager who can take a just-relegated club to promotion and into mid-table in the Premier League, a club with an arguably imbalanced squad, a club short of a plan B.

The only area he isn't really proven is the transfer market - only Odemwingie has been an unqualified success at West Brom. But then many on here keep reminding me that if we go down we're going to have an awesome squad, so that won't matter a jot.

My biggest concern over Curbishley is that he has been out of the game for about five years now. Is he still up to date with current players, new prospects and tactics?
