genome You know the curse isn't actually a real thing right?

And it's the manager of the month that's allegedly cursed, not player.

Even so, curses aren't actually real...

Tell that to Beetle Juice. .....

21 league goals in english football over 8 1/2 years before this season.

he could break that in one season.

Let's hope so, he's in cracking form at the moment. If he keeps this scoring run going he could be the player to make the difference this season......

Well they do say football fans have short memories.

I'm still wondering if the OP had a point, a few goals at the end of a decade of mediocrity does not a great player make.

Will we offer him a new contract? Will he accept? Didn't think I'd be worrying about this one! Hats off to Nick.

Yes, as per the definition of an appearance. Who was trying to argue the other day that an appearance only counts if it's a start?

League: 37 (52) - 15 goals
League cup: 5 (0) - 3 goals
FA cup: 2 (3) - 1 goal

Total: 44(55) - 19 goals

Interesting (to me) that Blackman is now averaging better than a goal every 240 minutes
(a little worse than a goal every 2.5 games) for his Reading career,
despite a few seasons as a bit-part player

McLeary is averaging a goal every 530 minutes for his Reading career.

if you combine goals and assists ...

G/A every 186 minutes, McCleary
G/A every 190 minutes Blackman

and that INCLUDES all Blackman's "poor games"

Wasn't me, but I remember reading it and thinking it Le Fondre's goals per appearance stats would have been amazing on that criteria during his time as a super-sub
All could have been avoided if they labelled the stat "goals per start" instead of appearance.

No one. Strap merely posted some stuff from his database which is recorded in a certain way and someone threw a hissy fit that it wasn't exactly how they think it should be labelled.

The below exchange is conclusive:

strap
P!ssed Off Can I suggest that in future you subscribe to the standard definition of 'appearance' to avoid confusion.
Thanks.

I already do!

Strap did argue that the standard way of counting appearances is starts only.
I disagreed, without throwing a hissy fit.
You whiteknighted. Apparently, as Strap had gone to the trouble of posting up a table so simple that it can be found in the back of the programme each week, he was fully entitled to interpret the results any way he liked.

For some reason you're still whiteknighting.
We move on.

Hopefully we can put this behind us? I do, (and have always done), distinguish appearances, (i.e. starts), and substitute appearances (i.e. subs), and include goals scored in both categories, just seems to be logical to me. I think we are all saying the same thing really.
Anyway, NBlackman's record in either category isn't exactly earth-shattering is it? 16 goals in 58 starts is just over 1 goal every 4 games, and 6 goals in 55 sub apps is just over 1 in 10. So £2,5M (if true), seems to me to be a steal - for us! Well at least we have recouped Vydra's ridiculous "loan fee" - thanks for that S(cottish) C(harlatan).
I'll crawl back under my stone ....
