Tony Le Mesmer If we "dont have the means" to sign any more players, why did we offer Inga a new contract whilst injured?

Because he was the current club captain and also if i remember correctly it was a pay per play contract

McD didn't say that. He said we didn't have the means for Zurab. He wasn't asked about 'any more players' so far as I can see from that quote.

Looking back thats true. but the questions still is , why have we offered him a new contract if money is that tight?

More GKs than CBs really isnt a great promotion plan either

Do you know the terms of the contract, Tony? At his age, one assumes he may have taken a slight pay-cut for the increase in term.

I'm quite keen to see some of the young strikers we've got but as someone who never really thought a great deal of Rasiak I have to say this is a bit of a disappointment to me - we didn't even get a fee. If he was moved on because he was on a high wage and it would be used for someone else than fair enough, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

He did indeed give us another dimension, and despite his lack of athleticism and his sometimes poor direction with his headers (i.e. straight up in the air) he did score some timely and important goals.

I don't want to go on about this too much as we've already gone over it more than enough on the McDermott says we've got no money thread, but if this is really UNAVOIDABLE then fine - that's the way things are - I just hope that in the next 2 or 3 years we can maintain our Championship status when we're apparently struggling so much on the money side of things.

Focher i liked Rasiak, gave us different dimension.

Most will be happy but i think its a bad move by us.

Its a bad move considering what we have left. There are plenty of decent loan strikers available (question is whether we get 1 )

I am not surprised a fee was not involved

Perhaps the tight, deluded old **** in charge plans to instruct McD to convert some of GKs into CBs!!

Why are we flogging a f*cking striker when we have so few in the first place?

Because this is a well run club with genuine ambitions to get into the Premier League.

Not a massive Rasiak fan, but as pointed out by others, had a knack of notching the odd goal when needed plus gave us other options.

Big Foot The worst part of this news is that it means we're almost certainly going to keep Shane Long

Agreed.

Christ we really do need a new Chairman. Running the club within it's means is all well Angkor in theory, but you just cannot compete at this level without outside investment. The recipe for success is what we have done under JM in the past, he just can't do that anymore

He's done more for this club than anyone could have dreamt, he's not gonna get the fairytale ending he deserves, but then modern football is a cruel sport.

You cannot run a football club as a business. Happening at Cardiff this week have shown that won't change.

Getying rid of Rasiak is a good thing in theory. He's the top earner and he doesn't play, no good if McD can't reinvest it.

Because times are hard you know. And despite being assured for years what an incredibly well run and financially secure club we are (the justification also given for our compartively very light spending whilst in the PL) it would appear we are in something of a financial pickle!

Of course, a lot of this may be due to the bank calling in its loan. However, why not go and get another one? Nothing wrong in having a loan afterall - an awful lot of people on here no doubt have one or more. Being so well run and with Madejski as Chairman surely banks would be happy to oblige? Or could it be the fact that Madejski shouting from the roof tops that he wanted out has given them all the jitters?

Might be different if the Chairman showed he was committed and prepared to put money where his mouth is.

Actually they might have genuine ambitions to get into the Premier League, just as I have genuine ambitions of winning the lottery. Not very realistic though if I just buy one ticket!

Well (if as most people on here say) League One is more his level then maybe it's best we hold on to him... just in case.

LOL @ People who think he is of any use to us then. If we just want some business expertise to run the club and come out with soundbites about promotion to the PL, we could hire some sodding consultants!

Any anyway, it's probably more of a question of providing security against loans rather than splashing out hard cash.

surely with a loan you have to pay back more than you borrowed, so its hardly going to help our situation

I think I'm somewhere in the middle on this... but I'll reply in the 'Mcdermott say's we've no cash' thread and let people carry on discussing the merits and demerits of Rasiak and Long and what league Limassol play in... we may as well carry on talking about money and Madejski over there.
