I excused myself after 90 minutes (of hell) at the League Cup game against Northampton this season.

About 8 or 9 years ago due to Friday night traffic on the M25 I was once about 15 minutes late for an evening game at home to Bristol City at the Madejski. We lost 3-1, and as I was just getting in to the ground I heard the Reading fans erupt as we went 1-0 up. The scorer? Yup, a certain Graeme Murty. Little did I know that I'd have to wait another 5 years or so to actually see him score.

At least three times yes.

Bristol City away in the Auto WIndscreens Southern Area semi final, got stuck in traffic on the way, got lost trying to follow where the floodlights were, parked up in local side street missed the first 10-15 minutes then Reading played terribly went 4-1 down with about 10 minutes remaining so left early.

Cheltenham away in a re-arranged FA Cup missed the first 25 minutes or so trying to find the ground and then a parking space. Got to the turnstyle had to persuade them to re-open it even though I had a valid ticket for the game.

Worst one of the lot was Forest at home a couple of seasons back when I missed the entire first half due to Reading Buses delays got there in time to see the start of the second half Forest score and us lose 1-0.

I missed the first 20 minutes of the 4-3 defeat at Liverpool in 2006, but we still didn't miss a goal. Took us almost 7 hours from Winchester.

Bolton away approx four years back. Left with a minute to go when the score was one all to meet up with my Bolton season ticket holder friend for a lift home. Missed our two injury time goals.

Left at the end of extra time versus West Ham in the League Cup?? so missed all of the penalty shoot out. Found out we had won when I got back to the car radio.

Travelled down from Yorkshire for the League Cup replay in Oct 1993 versus Manchester City but missed the whole game that evening cos my Dad died. And we lost.

brendywendy
Dave the rave Away at Villa Park 2006.
Parked in a sink estate down the road and walked in the rain.
Got there 10/20 minutes late so missed our goal but just in time to see Sonko get sent off then go down 2-1.

Evening was rounded off nicely as we walked back to the car to the sound of chavvy brummie kids giving it the large one.

Joy.

+1

+1 having dropped Mrs BDC and Son of BDC off outside the ground before trying to find somewhere to park

Left a game against Norwich early once, and heard them celebrating their third goal of a 3-0 win as I walked across Prospect Park.

Missed the first three goals of our 4-3 win at Crewe a few years ago because I was too hungover from drinking Leffe by the pint to even get off the sofa until 2pm. By the time I got there, they'd shut the gates and I had to argue my way in, even though I already had a ticket.

Regularly miss the first few minutes of a game just from being utterly useless when it comes to punctuality. Had litterally just taken my seat as we scored against Donny last week. Was asked to go out and come back in again.

My mate and I were a couple of minutes late to the Wolves game a couple of years ago; I just saw the goal but he had his back to the game as he was going up the stairs. As he doesn't go to away games, and as he missed the Blackpool game in November, it meant he ddn't see us score a winner in over a year.

Either the end of last season or the beginning of this, a women in the row behind me left her seat three times during the game. Every time she was gone a goal was scored, I'm pretty sure two for whoever Reading were playing and one for Reading themselves.

Only ever missed the start of one game and that wasn't a Reading one. Only time I've left a game early was when Reading lost 2-0 away to Swansea a couple of seasons ago. But then I felt bad and went back in again to catch injury time.

Almost missed the start of the Villa game last season. I managed to get my Sunday shift changed to work 9am-1pm. Got changed at work and got in a taxi about 1:15pm. Managed to get from Basingstoke town centre to the motorway junction in good time, but then hit traffic and crawled to the bottom of the stadium. Ran to the ground and made it into my seat just as the game was kicking off. Well worth spending my wages for that shift on getting to the game.

Missed the league Cup game against Reading at the Mad Stad. I was there - but totally smashed so can't remember a thing.

Also went to Dorchester to watch Bournmouth V Reading and was so smashed can't remember a thing except chucking a bog roll on the pitch and having an arguement with the chuckle brothers outside.

Missed our goals for that too - Was so bored with the game we sacked it off. Heard the roars as our goals went in before we'd even got back to the motor.

I too missed this game but it was due to being absolutely plastered. Passed out in a boozer near Griffin Park.
